Metacarpal neck fracture is one of the most common types of hand fractures; the literature suggests that applying a bone plate on the dorsal side provides higher fixation strength than that provided by other fixation methods. However, bone plate fixation on the dorsal side may result in postoperative tendon adhesion. So far, no studies have investigated the fixation of metacarpal neck fractures on the volar side by using a bone plate. ⋯ In terms of yield force, the DLP group (266.9 ± 68.3 N) scored significantly higher than the VLP group (32.6 ± 2.7 N) (P < .05); expressed in terms of median, the DLP group scored 8.2 times higher than the VLP group. Similarly, in terms of stiffness, the DLP group (69.0 ± 13.4 N/mm, median ± interquartile range) scored significantly higher than the VLP group (12.9 ± 1.4 N/mm) (P < .05); expressed in terms of median, the DLP group scored 5.3 times higher than the VLP group. The fixation strength of volar bone plates is only about one-third of that of dorsal bone plates.

The potential role of CDC20 in tumorigenesis, cancer progression and therapy: A narrative review.
The cell division cycle 20 homologue (CDC20) is known to regulate the cell cycle. Many studies have suggested that dysregulation of CDC20 is associated with various pathological processes in malignant solid tumors, including tumorigenesis, progression, chemoradiotherapy resistance, and poor prognosis, providing a biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. ⋯ Furthermore, we briefly synthesized multiple medicines that inhibited CDC20. We anticipate that CDC20 will be a promising and effective biomarker and therapeutic target for the treatment of human cancer.

Ferroptosis is an emerging form of programmed cell death triggered by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Alzheimer disease (AD), a neurodegenerative disorder, is characterized by the degeneration of nerve cells. ⋯ This article centers on the attributes and regulatory mechanism of ferroptosis, the correlation between ferroptosis and AD, and the recent advancements in the therapeutic approach of targeting ferroptosis for the treatment of AD. These results suggest that ferroptosis could potentially serve as a pivotal focus in future research on AD.

The role of acupuncture in women with advanced reproductive age undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer: A randomized controlled trial and follicular fluid metabolomics study.
The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of acupuncture on the outcome of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in elderly infertile patients with kidney qi deficiency, and to explore its possible mechanism from the perspective of pseudo-targeted metabolomics of follicular fluid. ⋯ From our findings, acupuncture can improve the quality of oocytes thus bettering the outcome of IVF-assisted pregnancy in elderly patients with kidney qi deficiency.

This is the first meta-analysis conducted to compare the hippocampal volume measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in healthy normal subjects, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer disease (AD), and to analyze the relationship between hippocampal volume changes and MCI and AD. ⋯ The shrinkage of hippocampus volume is closely related to MCI and AD. MRI measurement of hippocampus volume is not only an auxiliary diagnostic tool for MCI and AD, but also a good prognosis assessment tool.
