Cell cycle regulatory proteins plays a pivotal role in the development and progression of many human malignancies. Identification of their biological functions as well as their prognostic utility presents an active field of research. As a continuation of the ongoing efforts to elucidate the molecular characteristics of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC); we present a comprehensive bioinformatics study targeting the prognostic and mechanistic role of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 3 (CDKN3) in ccRCC. ⋯ High CDKN3 expression is associated with enrichment within the following pathways including allograph rejection, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, mitotic spindle, inflammatory response, IL-6/JAK/STAT3 signaling, spermatogenesis, TNF-α signaling via NF-kB pathway, complement activation, KRAS signaling, and INF-γ signaling. CDKN3 is also associated with significant infiltration of a wide spectrum of immune cells and correlates remarkably with immune-related genes. CDKN3 is a poor prognostic biomarker in ccRCC that alters many molecular pathways and impacts the tumor immune microenvironment.

In this study, the potential mechanism of the Hu-Zhang Qing-Mai Formulation (HZQMF) on diabetic retinopathy (DR) in inhibiting oxidative stress was explored through network pharmacology analysis and in vitro experiments. ⋯ Que might significantly reduce H2O2-induced ARPE-19 cell injury by inhibiting apoptosis-related genes of the AGE-RAGE pathway (JUN, MAPK1, STAT3). This study lays the foundation for further research on HZQMF in treating DR.

Flavonoids have been shown to be beneficial in a variety of inflammatory and metabolic diseases because of their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, previous epidemiological studies have only demonstrated a negative correlation between flavonoid intake on inflammatory markers, and the optimal intake of dietary flavonoids and subclasses in terms of dietary anti-inflammatory efficacy remains undetermined. This study was based on 3 cycles (2007-2010, 2017-2018) of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the corresponding expanded flavonoid database. ⋯ In addition, we found significant nonlinear relationships (L-shaped relationships) and threshold effects between total flavonoids, flavan-3-ols, and flavanols and DII, with inflection points of 437.65 mg/days, 157.79 mg/days, and 46.36 mg/days, respectively. Our results suggest a threshold for the dietary anti-inflammatory capacity of flavonoid intake in U. S. adults.

Risks of undernutrition and depression in hospitalized patients: A cross-sectional study.
Undernutrition in hospitalized patients is a significant healthcare burden worldwide. Depression is a major global health problem characterized by symptoms such as altered mood, loss of interest and pleasure, and impairment in cognitive and physical functions. Patients hospitalized for medical conditions have a higher risk of depression than the general population. ⋯ However, a statistically significant relationship was observed between age and the risk of depression, indicating that older patients had a higher risk of depression. In this study, a statistically significant relationship was found between the risk of undernutrition and the risk of depression in hospitalized patients. It was observed that the risk of undernutrition was lower in individuals without risk of depression.

To investigate the molecular targets and mechanisms of compound kushen injection (CKI) in the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer based on network pharmacology and transcriptomics. ⋯ CKI, based on its active ingredients and through multiple targets and multiple pathways, can stop the growth of cervical cancer cells at a certain phase of the cell cycle and cause apoptosis, which proved CKI's effect in treating cervical cancer.
