A descriptive analysis of 21 patients with pulmonary amyloidosis: An observational study.
Pulmonary amyloidosis is an extremely rare disease, often detected incidentally because of its asymptomatic nature and potential to result in fatal outcomes. In this study, we aimed to present the clinical and radiological features of patients diagnosed with pulmonary amyloidosis by biopsy. This descriptive study included 21 patients with pathologically diagnosed pulmonary amyloidosis. ⋯ In conclusion, it is crucial to distinguish pulmonary amyloidosis from other pulmonary diseases such as malignancies, infectious diseases, and interstitial lung diseases, which may have similar clinical and radiological findings. Bronchoscopic diagnostic methods are usually sufficient for the diagnosis. Although patients with pulmonary involvement mostly remain stable during long-term follow-up without progression, it is important to consider the risk of malignancy.

We aimed to assess the worldwide burden of ischemic stroke (IS) associated with high body mass index (BMI) using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019. This study examined the impact of high BMI on IS-related age-standardized death rates (ASDR) and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC) is estimated annual percentage change. ⋯ This study reveals a consistent global decline in IS related to high BMI, with a more significant burden observed in males under the age of 65, particularly in Southeast Asia, where increases in IS associated with high BMI are notable. Public health officials and global policymakers need timely and reliable quantitative data. This information is essential for implementing effective behavioral interventions, such as monitoring diet and physical activity, to address identified risk factors and reduce the burden of high BMI.

Clinical outcomes and associated bacterial and fungal microbiota changes after high dose probiotic therapy for severe alcohol-associated hepatitis: An observational study.
Alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) is a critical condition with high mortality rates and is worsened by infections. Organ failure is strongly associated with intestinal dysbiosis. Emerging research suggests that gut microbiota modulation with probiotics can improve AH outcomes. ⋯ HDPI failed to outperform CST in improving the clinical outcomes of patients with severe AH. While HDPI influenced both bacterial and fungal microbiomes, it also led to the persistence of pathogenic communities. FMT showed superior survival outcomes, highlighting the urgent need for further controlled trials.

Locally advanced cervical carcinoma (LACC) remains a significant global health challenge owing to its high recurrence rates and poor outcomes, despite current treatments. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive risk stratification model for LACC by integrating Cox regression and competing risk analyses. This was done to improve clinical decision making. ⋯ Calibration plots and decision curve analyses further validated the clinical utility of this nomogram. We present effective nomograms for LACC risk stratification that incorporate multiple prognostic factors. These models provide a refined approach for individualized patient management and have the potential to significantly enhance therapeutic strategies for LACC.

Clinical characteristics of diabetes patients complicated with COVID-19.
Patients with both diabetes and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are more likely to experience negative outcomes. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with these adverse outcomes that can assist clinicians in implementing suitable treatment strategies to minimize the occurrence of severe complications. A total of 92 patients with diabetes and COVID-19 in the Endocrine Department of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from December 2022 to February 2023 were enrolled and divided into the recovered group and the transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU) or death group. ⋯ The C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, interleukin-6, and serum amyloid A levels in the transfer to ICU or death group were significantly higher than those in the Recovered group (P < .05). In addition, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and serum amyloid A levels in the GFR reduction group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P < .05), while interleukin-6 levels were only slightly higher (P > .05). In clinical treatment, it is necessary to monitor infection indicators and GFR closely and intervene in time to reduce the occurrence of adverse events.
