A Mendelian randomization (MR) study was undertaken to establish a causal link between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and frozen shoulder (FS), examining whether the risk of GERD with FS is mediated through mood fluctuations. Genetic loci from populations of independent European ancestry were selected as instrumental variables for GERD, FS, and mood swings. The primary analysis employed the inverse-variance weighted method supplemented by 3 additional analytical methods. ⋯ We assessed this mediating effect using the delta method (b = 0.181, SE = 0.059, OR = 1.199, 95% confidence interval: 1.072-1.349). Analysis of the data using the above methods indicated that GERD is a risk factor for FS, and mood swings mediate between the 2. Therefore, GERD and mood swings should be included in the health management of patients with FS.

The impact of early cranioplasty on neurological function, stress response, and cognitive function in traumatic brain injury.
To analyze the efficacy of early cranioplasty in patients with traumatic brain injury and its impact on neurological function, stress response, and cognitive function. A total of 90 patients with traumatic brain injury admitted to the hospital from January 2021 to March 2024 were included in the study. The patients were divided into an observation group (45 cases) and a control group (45 cases) based on the timing of their cranioplasty. ⋯ The total incidence of postoperative complications was significantly lower in the observation group (8.70% vs 26.09%, P < .05). Early cranioplasty is beneficial for the postoperative recovery of patients with traumatic brain injury. It improves neurological function, enhances cognitive function, and reduces stress response, while also significantly lowering the incidence of postoperative complications.

A variety of health benefits are associated with physical activity (PA) in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to examine nephrologist practice patterns concerning exercise and PA in CKD patients. This is an online cross-sectional survey study that was conducted between June 2023 and May 2024 in Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Key barriers include lack of interest by staff and management and funding issues. In spite of these barriers, a majority of physicians acknowledge the role of exercise in CKD patients and advice regarding PA on a frequent basis. It suggests recommendations in order to expand the programs, including increasing staff motivation, securing management support, and getting funding for exercise programs and identifying the role of physiotherapists in exercise counseling for CKD patients.

Analysis of carotid ultrasound in a high-stroke-risk population.
This study aims to explore the risk factors for carotid plaque (CP) and carotid common artery intima-media thickening (CCAIMT) and clarify the relationship between the risk factors with the number of CPs and the side of CCAIMT in a high-stroke-risk population in Qujing, Yunnan, China. Carotid ultrasonography was performed in 430 participants with high stroke risk, who were divided into different groups according to their ultrasound results. The risk factors and blood biochemical indices were recorded for assessment. ⋯ Risk factors for left CCAIMT included a history of hyperlipidemia and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, while male sex was the sole risk factor for right CCAIMT. Finally, male sex and advanced age were identified as risk factors for dual CCAIMT. The research reveals the risk factors for CP and CCAIMT, also clarifies the relationship between the risk factors, CP numbers, and the side of CCAIMT.

Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by absolute or relative insufficiency of insulin secretion and impaired insulin utilization. CDH1 and DVL1 role in diabetes and its nursing care is unclear. The diabetes dataset GSE21321 and GSE19790 profiles were downloaded from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. ⋯ Core gene expression heatmap showed that core genes (CTNNB1, CDH1, DVL1) were highly expressed in diabetes samples. CTD analysis showed thatCTNNB1, CDH1, DVL1were associated with weight gain, inflammation, and necrosis. CDH1 and DVL1 are highly expressed in diabetes and may become molecular targets for diabetes and its care.
