This study aimed to investigate global research advances and hot trends in prediabetes in the last decade based on a bibliometric analysis of publications. Publications from 2013 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database through a topic search. With the use of CiteSpace, VOS viewer, and Bibliometrix R software packages, the number of publications, production categories, countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords were comprehensively analyzed to sort out the hot spots and directions of prediabetes and predict the future research directions. ⋯ This study summarized the research hotspots and trends in prediabetes research in the last decade. Frontier research can be found in the journal Diabetes Care and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology Metabolism. Prediabetes research focuses on preventing risk factors to reduce the prevalence of prediabetes, and current research hotspots focus on gut microbes and metabolism-related biomarkers.

The second cutaneous anthrax infection diagnosed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing: A case report.
Anthrax is a severe zoonotic infectious disease caused by Bacillus anthracis. Most reported cases were traditionally diagnosed through culture and microscopy. We reported here the second case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). ⋯ Traditional bacterial cultures are time-consuming, while mNGS offers the advantage of accurate, quick, high-throughput, unbiased sequencing of all genetic material in a sample, which is a good technical tool for assisting in the diagnosis of rare pathogen infections.

E2F transcription factors (E2Fs) are a family of transcription factors critical regulators of the cell cycle, apoptosis, and differentiation, thus influencing tumorigenesis. However, the specific roles of E2Fs in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain unclear. Data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were used. ⋯ Compared with paracancerous tissues, E2F7 was up-regulated in LUAD by IHC, and E2F7 might be positively correlated with larger tumors and higher TNM stages. E2F7 may primarily regulate DNA repair, damage, and cell cycle processes and thus affect LUAD tumorigenesis, invasion, and metastasis by LinkedOmics and CancerSEA. E2F7 serves as a potential prognostic biomarker for LUAD.

In patients with bilateral highly dislocated hips (HDHs), total hip arthroplasty with subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy (S-THA) is a viable option for achieving adequate reconstruction with restoration of the anatomical hip center. This procedure has the potential to improve sagittal spinopelvic alignment (SSPA). However, reports are scarce owing to the rarity of this disease. ⋯ The correlation coefficients between preoperative LL and SS and postoperative LL and PI were 0.81 and 0.38, respectively (P < .01). The preoperative SSPA of Crowe type IV HDHs revealed excessive pelvic anteversion and lumbar hyperlordosis, with a high correlation between LL and SS, suggesting that these alterations were compensatory changes to maintain body balance. Furthermore, in patients with HDHs and residual spinal flexibility, restoring the original pelvic morphology with S-THA may contribute to improved SSPA.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the primary cause of vision impairment in older adults, especially in developed countries. While many articles on AMD exist in the literature, none specifically delve into the trends based on document categories. While bibliometric studies typically use dual-map overlays to highlight new trends, these can become congested and unclear with standard formats (e.g., in CiteSpace software). In this study, we introduce a unique triple-map Sankey diagram (TMSD) to assess the evolution of AMD research. Our objective is to understand the nuances of AMD articles and show the effectiveness of TMSD in determining whether AMD research trends have shifted over the past decade. ⋯ The introduced TMSD, which incorporates the FLCA algorithm and features in 3 columns-cited, active, and citing research categories-offers readers clearer insights into research developments compared to the traditional dual-map overlays from CiteSpace software. Such tools are especially valuable for streamlining the visualization of the intricate data often seen in bibliometric studies.
