Hypothyroidism is a chronic and progressive medical condition that requires extreme adherence to medication in order to effectively manage the disease. The aim of this study was to examine patients' adherence to their thyroid therapy and their depressive status and their associated predictors. This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted between April and June 2023 using a sample of chronic hypothyroidism patients visiting the Jordan University of Science and Technology Health Center in Irbid, along with the Family Medicine and Endocrine clinic at King Abdullah University Hospital. ⋯ Patients aged 31 to 50 years and married patients were identified to have higher adherence level compared to other patients (P < .05). This study observed a notable low to moderate level of adherence among patients diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Jordan with regards to their prescribed therapeutic regimen. Furthermore, a significant part of the individuals had a susceptibility to the development of major depressive disorder.

We conducted a study to evaluate the impact of folic acid supplementation on the risk of Alzheimer disease (AD). A Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis model assessed the causal effects of folic acid supplementation on AD, utilizing data from recent genome-wide association studies. Effect estimates were scrutinized using various methods: inverse-variance weighted (IVW), simple mode, weighted mode, simple median, weighted median, penalized weighted median, and the MR-Egger method. ⋯ Both fixed-effect and random-effect IVW models in the MR analysis revealed a reduced risk of AD associated with folic acid supplementation (odds ratio, 0.930; 95% CI, 0.903-0.958, P < .001; odds ratio, 0.930; 95% CI, 0.910-0.950, P < .001) based on 7 SNPs as instrumental variables. The reverse MR analysis indicated no causal association between AD and folic acid supplementation. This study, utilizing genetic data, suggests that folic acid supplementation may potentially reduce the risk of AD and provides novel insights into its etiology and preventive measures.

We aimed to explore the therapeutic effects of endoscopically assisted surgical approaches for HICH. In this retrospective cohort study, we retrospectively analyzed the treatment status of 118 patients with HICH who underwent surgery for hematoma removal. Among them, 61 patients underwent endoscopically assisted hematoma removal surgery through the frontal lobe approach (frontal lobe group); 57 patients underwent endoscopic hematoma assisted via the temporal lobe approach (temporal lobe group). ⋯ After surgery, the R during the contraction period of the common cerebral artery in both groups decreased compared to that before surgery, and the frontal lobe group was significantly lower than the temporal lobe group; the V and Q were higher than those before surgery, and the frontal lobe group was significantly higher than the temporal lobe group (P < .05). The prognosis of the frontal lobe group was better than that of the temporal lobe group (P < .05). Compared to the endoscopic-assisted temporal approach, the endoscopic-assisted frontal lobe approach for the treatment of HICH can improve cerebral hemodynamic status, enhance treatment efficacy, and improve prognosis.

A case report of cerebellar hemangioblastoma simulated brain metastasis shown by magnetic resonance imaging.
Hemangioblastomas occur both sporadically and as an important component of von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. The typical MRI features of hemangioblastoma are cysts with enhanced cystic wall nodules in the cerebellum or lesions with uniform enhancement on the surface or inside the spinal cord. If there is edema around hemangioblastoma, it is easy to be misdiagnosed as brain metastasis on MRI. ⋯ In this report, we emphasize the atypical MRI manifestations of hemangioblastoma. For patients with VHL syndrome-related hemangioblastoma, genetic testing is necessary for the patient and their family members.

Chai Shao Liu Jun Zi decoction (CSLJZD) is an effective Chinese medicine for the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). However, the effect of CSLJZD on the intestinal flora of patients with CAG remains unclear. We used 16S rRNA gene sequencing to investigate the regulatory effects of CSLJZD on intestinal microflora in patients with CAG. ⋯ The LEfSe results showed that the abundances of the genus Bilophila, family Desulfovibrionaceae, order Desulfovibrionales and genus Faecalibacterium were significantly higher in the healthy group. The abundance of genus Klebsiella, order Deltaproteobacteria, genus Gemmiger, and other genera was significantly higher in the treatment group. Treatment with CSLJZD had a therapeutic effect on the intestinal flora of patients with CAG.
