Checkpoint inhibitor therapy has become increasingly important and has been endorsed as a treatment regimen in breast cancer. But benefits were limited to a small proportion of patients. We aimed to develop an improved signature on the basis of immune genes for detection of potential benefit from immunotherapy. ⋯ Checkpoint molecules, including CTLA-4, PD-L1, TIM-3, VISTA, ICOS, PD-1, and PD-L2, were expressed at markedly lower levels in the high-risk group as compared to the low-risk group. Immunophenoscores, as a surrogate of response to immune checkpoint therapy, was observed significant lower in the high-risk group. The 10-gene prognostic signature could identify patients' survival and was correlated with the biomarkers of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, which may guide precise therapeutic decisions in clinical practice.

We intend to explore potential mechanisms of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f (TwHF) induced kidney injury (KI) using the methods of network toxicology and molecular docking. We determined TwHF potential compounds with its targets and KI targets, obtained the TwHF induced KI targets after intersecting targets of TwHF and KI. Then we conducted protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, gene expression analysis, gene ontology (GO) function and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis to explore the mechanism of TwHF-induced KI. ⋯ KEGG pathway enrichment analysis indicated PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway and TNF signaling pathway were key signaling pathways of TwHF induced KI. Molecular docking showed that the binding energy of core targets and toxic compounds was all less than -6.5 kcal/mol that verified the screening ability of network pharmacology and provided evidence for modifying TwHF toxic compounds structure. Through the study, we unveiled the mechanism of TwHF induce KI that TwHF might activate PI3K-Akt signaling pathway as well as TNF signaling pathway to progress renal inflammation, mediate hypoxia via HIF-1 signaling pathway to accelerate inflammatory processes, and also provided a theoretical basis for modifying TwHF toxic compounds structure as well as supported the follow-up research.

Accurate assessment of wound areas is crucial in making therapeutic decisions, as the prognosis and changes in the size of the wound over time play a significant role. An ideal assessment method should possess qualities such as speed, affordability, accuracy, user-friendliness for both patients and healthcare professionals, and suitability for daily clinical practice. This study aims to introduce a handheld 3-dimensional (3D) scanner and evaluate its accuracy in measuring wound areas. ⋯ However, the definition of a healthy skin edge may vary, and different algorithms for calculating the measurement area are employed in various 3D measurement software. Therefore, further validation of their accuracy for medical purposes is necessary. Effective communication with software engineers and discussions on meeting clinical requirements are crucial steps in enhancing the functionality of the 3D scanner.

The objective of this study was to investigate the global research trends in herbal medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) from 2000 to 2023. A bibliometric approach was employed to analyze international collaborations, knowledge structures, emerging trends, and research frontiers. ⋯ This paper provides a reference for the future development of herbal research in cardiovascular aspects by revealing the current status, hotspots, and trends of global herbal research in cardiovascular factors over more than 20 years. Identification of potential collaborators and institutions can assist researchers in exploring new directions for future research and discovering new perspectives for potential collaborations in this field.

Investigating the applying effects of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in the perioperative period of elderly lung cancer patients undergoing the surgery. We randomly selected 98 elderly patients with lung cancer who were admitted to our hospital and underwent surgery from January 2022 to September 2023 as study subjects. The control group received conventional care during the perioperative period, and the intervention group received ERAS-guided care measures. ⋯ At 3 days postoperatively, tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-6, and CRP in both groups were higher than those in their same groups before surgery, and those of the observation group was lower than those of the control group (P < .05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < .05). ERAS applied in the perioperative period of elderly lung cancer patients undergoing surgery can shorten the hospital stay, promote the postoperative recovery on pulmonary function, alleviate inflammation, and reduce the risk of postoperative complications.
