Epiglottic retroversion is the abnormal movement of the epiglottis to the rima glottis, resulting in blockage of inspiratory airflow. Acute upper airway obstruction caused by epiglottic retroversion can lead to sudden respiratory failure. Epiglottic retroversion has occasionally been reported in horses and dogs; however it is extremely rare in humans. Herein, we report a case of epiglottic retroversion causing recurrent upper airway obstruction in human. ⋯ This case highlights the importance of considering epiglottic retroversion as a cause of acute upper airway obstruction.

Gamma knife radiosurgery (GRKS) is widely used for patients with brain metastases; however, predictions of overall survival (OS) within 3-months post-GKRS remain imprecise. Specifically, more than 10% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients died within 8 weeks of post-GKRS, indicating potential overtreatment. This study aims to predict OS within 3-months post-GKRS using machine learning algorithms, and to identify prognostic features in NSCLC patients. ⋯ Analysis of the decision tree visualized data revealed that patients aged (>71 years) with tumor volume (>10 cc) were increased risk of mortality within 3-months. The findings suggest that ML algorithms can effectively predict OS within 3-months and identify crucial features in NSCLC patients. For NSCLC patients with poor prognoses, old age, and large tumor volumes, GKRS may not be a desirable treatment.

Interleukin (IL)-31/IL-33 axis has been proved to play an important role in the regulation of inflammation, and serum IL-33 was found to be a novel serum prognostic marker of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), while the value of serum IL-31 levels on prognosis in patients with ICH remains unknown. The present study was designed to study the value of serum IL-31 levels on prognosis in ICH patients. A total of 200 ICH patients and 50 healthy people were included in this study. ⋯ The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the sensitivity and specificity of serum IL-31 level in evaluating the prognosis of ICH were 85.2% and 76.7%, respectively. A cutoff value of serum IL-31 level > 185.30 pg/mL may indicate a poor prognosis for ICH. Serum IL-31 levels on admission in ICH patients are associated with patient prognosis, and higher serum IL-31 levels are associated with a higher risk of poor prognosis in ICH patients.

To predict the molecular mechanisms of action of Coptis chinensis in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease using network pharmacology. The active ingredients and targets of Coptis chinensis were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology Database. Target information for Alzheimer's disease was screened using the GeneCard and OMIM databases. ⋯ The main signaling pathways were the PI3K-Akt, AGE-RAGE, MAPK, HIF-1, TNF, and relaxin signaling pathways. The molecular docking results showed that berberine has a high affinity for Alzheimer's Disease. Coptis chinensis could play a multi-target and multi-pathway role against Alzheimer's disease, which has guiding significance for clinical research.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a common malignant tumor. Identification of biomarkers and understanding their potential functions will facilitate the treatment and diagnosis in LUAD patients. The yellow module (cor = 0.31, P = 2e-6) was selected as the core module based on weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) by integrating RNA-seq data and tumor stage. ⋯ Among which, FOXF1 was downregulated and TFAP2A was upregulated in TCGA-LUAD cohort. Both TFs showed a significantly positive correlation with the expression level of PLAU. In conclusion, we identified 2 biomarkers related to immune response and achieved a good accuracy in predicting OS in patients with LUAD.
