Rhabdomyolysis is a serious complication of status epilepticus (SE) caused by muscle cell damage and can lead to a life-threatening acute kidney injury (AKI). ⋯ This case alerts physicians to consider the synergistic drug side effects and interactions, especially when patients present with impaired liver or kidney functions. The reduction in metabolism or excretion of drugs can cause an increase in serum concentrations and induce toxicity, even when the drug intake at the usual dose.

Teres minor denervation (TMD) has gained increasing attention in recent years, particularly with the advent of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The potential association between TMD and shoulder instability or rotator cuff tear remains a subject of interest in the orthopedic community. In this retrospective and cross-sectional study, authors aim to investigate the potential association between TMD and shoulder instability or rotator cuff tears. ⋯ Our findings suggest that TMD is significantly associated with rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability. This study highlights the importance of identifying and treating PLCC tears in patients with TMD to address shoulder instability. Further research is needed to elucidate the role of TMD in the pathogenesis of shoulder instability and rotator cuff pathology.

A number of studies have been conducted to explore the survival of gastric cancer (GC) patients, while studies about non-cancer causes of death in patients with GC are not well-conducted. The aim of this study was to deeply investigate the causes of death (COD) in GC patients, especially non-cancer ones. The Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database was used to extract information including demographics, tumor characteristics and causes of death of GC patients meeting the inclusion criteria. ⋯ Diseases of heart were the most common non-cancer cause of death, accounting for 30%, followed by cerebrovascular diseases (n = 917; 6%) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (n = 900; 6%). Although gastric cancer remains the most common cause of death in gastric cancer patients, it should not be ignored that the risk of non-cancer causes tends to increase with the length of the latency period. These findings may provide important insights into the healthcare management of gastric cancer patients at various follow-up intervals.

Despite having a higher mortality risk than conventional chemotherapeutics, high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) has the potential to be curative in relapsed/refractory germ-cell tumors. Therefore, selecting the best patient group for this treatment is critical. This study aimed to determine the factors that affect survival in our relapsed/refractory GCT cohort who received HDCT and autologous stem-cell transplantation. ⋯ The results of the study promise the best response to HDCT as a primary measure for predicting survival in relapsed/refractory GCT. In contrast, primary mediastinal GCT is not a good candidate for HDCT. Furthermore, a carboplatin-etoposide regimen in combination with cyclophosphamide and paclitaxel may improve PFS.

The development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been reported to be caused by sphingolipid family inducing insulin resistance, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammation, which can be regulated by multiple sphingolipid metabolic pathways. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of crucial sphingolipid metabolism related genes (SMRGs) in NAFLD. Firstly, the datasets (GSE48452, GSE126848, and GSE63067) from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and sphingolipid metabolism genes (SMGs) from previous research were collected for this study. ⋯ With respect to the Spearman analysis between immune cells and biomarkers, CD37 and CXCL9 were significantly positively associated with M1 macrophages (P < .001), whose proportion was observably higher in NAFLD patients compared with controls. At last, TFs (ZNF460 and ZNF384) of CD37 and CXCL9 and a total of 79 chemical drugs targeting CD37 and CXCL9 were predicted. This study mined the pivotal SMRGs, CD37 and CXCL9, and systematically explored the mechanism of action of both biomarkers based on the public databases, which could tender a fresh reference for the clinical diagnosis and therapy of NAFLD.
