The effect of joint position sense therapy on chronic shoulder pain with central sensitization.
Chronic shoulder pain is a common musculoskeletal problem associated with unreleased pain and functional dysfunction that can evolve into central sensitization. Some forms of manual therapy may exacerbate pain and central sensitization. This study investigated the impact of joint position sense therapy (JPST), a moderate joint proprioception training technique, on central sensitization, shoulder functional dysfunction, and pain in patients with chronic shoulder pain compared with more intense exercises or aggressive manual therapies. ⋯ Generalized hyperalgesia changes limited to the upper limbs were observed in patients with chronic shoulder pain. JPST has beneficial effects on pain control and functional dysfunction in patients with chronic shoulder pain.

Effectiveness of an ERAS-based exercise-nutrition management model in enhancing postoperative recovery for thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer: A randomized controlled trial.
To analyze the effect of an exercise-nutrition management model based on the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) concept on patients undergoing thoracoscopic radical surgery for lung cancer. ⋯ The exercise-nutrition management model, based on the ERAS concept, exhibits significant perioperative effects in patients undergoing thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer, improving their nutritional status and reducing complications.

This study aimed to scrutinize the relationship between physical exercise and hypertension, taking into account multiple variables such as age, body mass index (BMI), family history, smoking, and alcohol consumption in the Southern Sichuan population, China, using a retrospective approach based on hospital record data. This retrospective study analyzed data from 946 participants obtained from a hospital electronic medical record system. The data included information regarding participants' lifestyle factors, family history, and a clinical diagnosis of hypertension. ⋯ Findings from this hospital record-based retrospective study reinforce the multifactorial nature of hypertension. They highlight the significance of physical exercise, along with maintaining optimal BMI and encouraging healthy habits like nonsmoking and moderate alcohol consumption in hypertension prevention. Our findings also underscore the need for future prospective studies to establish causality and explore the generalizability of these results beyond the Southern Sichuan population.

As with any other invasive procedure, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) may lead to considerable anxiety in patients. This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of sedated and non-sedated procedures on anxiety in patients undergoing EGD and to better recognize patient groups at risk for anxiety. ⋯ Endoscopic procedures may cause anxiety in patients as with all other invasive procedures. Patients' compliance with the procedure and having a lower level of anxiety are very significant for diagnostic and, if necessary, therapeutic success. In this study, the patient gender was evaluated as a predictor of anxiety level, whereas educational background was not a predictor.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) considered a public health problem that affects vulnerable and at-risk populations, such as sex workers. We designed a retrospective cross-sectional study based on the review of health evaluation records of sex workers who attended consultations to obtain comprehensive health cards at a Health Center in the Province of San Vicente de Cañete in Peru during the year 2020. We obtained sociodemographic and employment information and the RPR (rapid plasma reagin) test results to diagnose syphilis. ⋯ The prevalence of syphilis was 7.3% (CI95: 4.2%-11.5%). Being a homosexual sex worker was significantly associated with syphilis (OR: 19.6; 95% CI: 4.8-80.0) compared to heterosexuals. The prevalence of syphilis presented a value similar to that reported in other Latin American and national studies, and it is evident that it is a health problem among sex workers.
