Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) play important roles in inducing M1 and M2 macrophage polarization. Studies have shown that LPS can promote the polarization of macrophages to M1-type and produce many pro-inflammatory cytokines, while IL-4 can promote the polarization of macrophages to M2-type and produce many anti-inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, Connexin 43 (Cx43) is widely expressed in macrophages and has various regulatory functions. ⋯ IL-4-induced M2 polarization of macrophages inhibits cell autophagy, reducing Cx43 degradation and leading to an increase in Cx43 from 24 hours to 48 hours. Thus, Cx43 expression in M2-type polarization experiences a reduction at first and then an increase from 24 hours to 48 hours. The direction of macrophage polarization can be controlled by regulating the expression of Cx43, thus providing a theoretical basis for treating atherosclerosis, tumors, and other diseases associated with macrophage polarization.

Combination of Fushengong decoction with Western medicine on patients with chronic renal failure: An observational study.
Chronic renal failure (CRF) causes a reduction in glomerular filtration rate and damage to renal parenchyma. Fushengong decoction (FSGD) showed improvement in renal function in CRF rats. This study aims to analyze the differentially expressed proteins in CRF patients treated with Western medicine alone or in combination with FSGD. ⋯ These proteins are involved in the blood coagulation system, protein serine/threonine kinase activity, and TGF-β, which are closely related to the pathogenesis of CRF. Protein-protein-interaction network analysis indicated that candidate proteins fibronectin 1, fibrinogen alpha chain, vitronectin, and Serpin Family C Member 1 were in the key nodes. This study provided an experimental basis suggesting that FSGD combined with Western medicine could significantly improve renal function and renal fibrosis of CRF patients, which may be through the regulation of fibronectin 1, fibrinogen alpha chain, vitronectin, Serpin Family C Member 1, TGF-β, and the complement coagulation pathway (see Graphical abstract S1, Supplemental Digital Content, http://links.lww.com/MD/L947).

Since the emergence of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, significant advancements has been made in research, from limited knowledge about the disease to the development of a vaccine. Although the severity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) appears to be decreasing and the threat of COVID-19 is waning, there have been widespread concerns about persistent symptoms or sequelae experienced by some patients even after recovering from COVID-19. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown favorable treatment outcomes during the onset of COVID-19, and extensive studies have been carried out to explore the efficacy of TCM interventions during the COVID-19 recovery period. The purpose of this review is to comprehensively analyze these studies and provide new insights for the prevention and treatment of the post-COVID-19 condition.

To investigate the status quo and influencing factors of general postpartum well-being in primiparas, analyze its correlation with postpartum depression, and provide a theoretical foundation for enhancing the postpartum well-being of primiparas. From the start of November 2021 to the end of December 2021, the General Information Questionnaire, General Well-Being Scale, and the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale were used to survey primiparas in a tertiary hospital, and the correlation between general well-being and postpartum depression was analyzed. We surveyed a total of 225 primiparas. ⋯ Confinement location, planned pregnancy, pregnancy complications, neonatal sex, medical expenses, etc, had statistically significant effects on the general well-being scores (P < .05), whereas per capita monthly income, pregnancy complications, maternal and infant care skills, and medical expenses had statistically significant effects on postpartum depression scores (P < .05). Postpartum depression scores were negatively correlated with general well-being, health anxiety, energy, sad or happy mood, relaxation, and tension. There is a negative correlation between the general well-being of primiparas and postpartum depression, suggesting that in clinical care, the focus should be on primiparas with pregnancy complications, and psychological counseling should be provided in advance to prevent postpartum depression and the resulting decrease in well-being.

2-Deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) is known to be a helpful imaging modality for sacral chordoma, but its detailed characteristics have not been fully described. The purpose of our study was to identify the [18F]FDG PET/CT imaging characteristics of sacral chordoma and compare them with other sacral malignancy. This retrospective study included patients who underwent [18F]FDG PET/CT because of a mass involving the sacrum. ⋯ In ROC curve analysis, TLR showed the largest area under the curve (AUC) of 0.79 (cutoff ≤ 4.0; sensitivity 100.0%, specificity 58.3%; P = .004), and SUVmax showed the second largest AUC of 0.73 (cutoff ≤ 6.9; sensitivity 80.0%, specificity 66.7%; P = .034). [18F]FDG PET/CT of sacral chordoma showed minimal-moderate uptake. The TLR of [18F]FDG PET/CT was significantly lower than that of other sacral malignancy and was the most useful parameter for differentiating sacral chordoma, with the largest AUC. SUVmax could be another helpful semiquantitative parameter.
