Observational Study
Prevalence and factors associated with malnutrition among hemodialysis patients in a single hemodialysis center in Vietnam: A cross-sectional study.
Malnutrition is a common problem among hemodialysis patients that increases morbidity and mortality and decreases the quality of life. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of malnutrition and associated factors and survey the consumption of energy and several nutrients among hemodialysis patients. A prospective observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 76 patients on hemodialysis therapy at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for 2 months (from May to July 2022). ⋯ We found a significant association between patients' occupation (P < .05), dialysis vintage (P < .001), and malnutrition status. Malnutrition is widespread among Vietnamese hemodialysis patients, which necessitates regular assessment and monitoring. We recommend paying more attention to the nutritional status of patients who are unemployed, retired, or stopped working and those with ≥ 5 years of hemodialysis.

The product of red cell distribution width (RDW) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) has been identified as an indicator of target organ damage in cases of hypertension. However, the role of the RDW-MCV product in assessing carotid alteration, renal damage, and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with hypertension has not been elucidated. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 1115 participants with hypertension were included. ⋯ However, the RDW-MCV product was higher in individuals with a high LVMI compared to those with a normal LVMI. Multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that the RDW-MCV product was independently associated with the LVMI (β = 2.519, 95% CI: 0.921-4.116; P = .002), but not the estimated glomerular filtration rate (β = -0.260, 95% CI: -2.031-1.511; P = .773). An elevated RDW-MCV product may be a predictor for left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with hypertension.

Epistaxis is one of the common emergencies in otolaryngology. There are many causes of epistaxis, but reports of epistaxis due to nasal foreign bodies like leeches are rare. ⋯ There are many causes of epistaxis, which are nonspecific and prone to missed or incorrect diagnosis. In patients with a history of fieldwork or direct contact with leeches who present with recurrent nasal bleeding, the possibility of epistaxis caused by a live leech should be considered, and timely and effective treatment should be provided.

Case Reports
A case report of atrial septal puncture "mistakenly" penetrated the aorta during left bypass radiofrequency ablation.
Transseptal punctures (TSPs) are widely used in left atrium and left ventricle surgery. Accidental puncture of the puncture needle into the aorta is a rare complication that is rarely reported but has serious consequences. The appropriate management of this complication remains unclear. ⋯ Strict and standardized TSP operations can avoid complications. Correct judgment of the authenticity of complications is crucial, and remedial measures that may cause further damage should not be blindly adopted. The retention of the aortic guide wire can provide convenient access for further differential diagnosis and remedial treatment.

This study aimed to assess the impact of continuous precision nursing on neurobehavioral function and pregnancy outcomes in patients experiencing threatened abortion. A total of 130 patients with early threatened abortion admitted to our hospital between October 2020 and January 2023 were selected and categorized into 2 groups based on intervention methods. The control group received routine nursing intervention, whereas the observation group received continuous precision nursing intervention. ⋯ No significant differences were observed in neonatal mortality and neonatal intensive care unit transfer rates between the observation and control groups (P > .05). Continuous precision nursing contributes to improved pregnancy outcomes for patients with threatened miscarriage within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. This comprehensive care approach is associated with enhanced knowledge retention, protection of neurological function, and an overall improvement in quality of life.
