Analyses using population-based health administrative data can return erroneous results if case identification is inaccurate ("misclassification bias"). An acetabular fracture (AF) prediction model using administrative data decreased misclassification bias compared to identifying AFs using diagnostic codes. This study measured the accuracy of this AF prediction model in another hospital. ⋯ The AF prediction model was very discriminative (c-statistic 0.90, 95% CI: 0.87-0.92) and very well calibrated (integrated calibration index 0.056, 95% CI: 0.039-0.074). AF probability can be accurately determined using routinely collected health administrative data. This observation supports using the AF prediction model to minimize misclassification bias when studying AF using health administrative data.

In this study, we aimed to explore the risk factors influencing post-recurrence survival (PRS) of early recurrence (ER) and late recurrence (LR) in stage advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients after radical surgery, respectively, and to develop predictive models in turn. Medical records of 192 AGC patients who recurred after radical gastrectomy were retrospectively reviewed. They were randomly divided into the training and validation set at a ratio of 2:1. ⋯ The C-index values were 0.801 and 0.772 for ER and LR in the training set, respectively. The calibration curves of validation set showed a C-index value of 0.744 and 0.676 for ER and LR, respectively. Nomograms which were constructed to predict the prognosis of ER and LR of AGC after surgery showed great predictive power and could provide reference for clinicians' treatment strategies to some extent.

Gouty arthritis (GA) is a common metabolic rheumatological disease. Si-Miao decoction has therapeutic effects on GA. In our study, we investigated the mechanism of Si-Miao decoction against GA using network pharmacology and molecular docking analytical methods. ⋯ GO and KEGG analyses showed that the mechanism of anti-GA in Si-Miao decoction may proceed by regulating biological processes such as inflammatory factor levels, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and lipid and glucose metabolism, and modulating the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, NF-kappa B signaling pathway, and Toll-like receptor signaling pathway. We further screened the core targets, including PTGS2, MMP9, and PPAGR, as receptor proteins based on their degree value and molecular docking with the main active compounds in Si-Miao decoction, and found that baicalein had high affinity. In conclusion, Si-Miao decoction, through anti-inflammatory, apoptosis-regulating, and anti-oxidative stress action mechanisms in the treatment of GA.

Investigating risk factors for medication errors during perioperative care: A retrospective cohort study.
Medication errors during perioperative care significantly compromise patient safety and the quality of outcomes. It is crucial to identify and understand the factors that contribute to these errors to develop effective, targeted interventions. This study aims to explore the risk factors associated with medication errors during perioperative care in a tertiary hospital setting, focusing on patient demographics, medication types, administration routes, and nursing care characteristics. ⋯ The presence of a dedicated anesthesia nurse significantly reduced the likelihood of errors. Patient age, medication type, administration route, nursing education level, and the involvement of specialized anesthesia nurses emerged as significant factors influencing the risk of medication errors in perioperative care. These findings underscore the need for targeted educational and procedural interventions to mitigate such errors, enhancing patient safety in surgical settings.

With the global aging trend escalating, the holistic well-being of the elderly has become a paramount concern within public health. Traditional observational studies often struggle with confounding factors and establishing causality, leaving the relationship between age-related hearing loss (ARHL) and gout largely unexplored. Employing bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, this investigation elucidated the genetic underpinnings associated with age-related hearing impairment, gout, and urate levels within the IEU Open-GWAS database, thereby uncovering potential causal connections that underlie the intricate interplay between gout, serum urate concentrations, and auditory decline in the geriatric demographic. ⋯ Sensitivity analyses concurred with this inference. This study enriches the comprehension of geriatric health intricacies and unveils that ARHL potentially influences gout and serum urate concentrations. This suggests that monitoring ARHL may play a crucial role in the early identification and management of gout and hyperuricemia, potentially contributing to a comprehensive approach to improving geriatric health outcomes.
