Childhood anemia is a significant global public health problem. It influences the physical and cognitive development, as well as immunity of affected children. This in turn leads to poor academic performance, low working potential, and increased morbidity and mortality. ⋯ Thus, efforts should be made to improve the child's nutritional status as well as enhance maternal awareness of nutrition and child-feeding practice through health education. Regular childhood nutritional screening and appropriate intervention for malnutrition are needed. Besides, further studies assessing serum micronutrient levels should be conducted to differentiate the specific cause and type of anemia.

Red cell distribution width to total serum calcium ratio and in-hospital mortality risk in patients with acute ischemic stroke: A MIMIC-IV retrospective analysis.
We investigated the relationship among red cell distribution width (RDW), to total serum calcium (TSC) ratio (RCR), and in-hospital mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study was a retrospective analysis. The data of 2700 AIS patients was retrospectively analyzed from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care database (version IV). ⋯ The Kaplan-Meier curve indicated that survival rates were higher when RCR was ≤ 1.83 and lower when RDW was > 1.83 after adjustment for age, gender, BMI, ethnicity. The area under curve (AUC) of RCR was 0.715. A higher RCR was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital mortality in patients with AIS.

This study aimed to investigate the prognostic relationship between relative dose intensity (RDI) of adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy and psoas muscle mass volume (PMV) in patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. We enrolled 105 patients with histologically confirmed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who had undergone pancreatectomy. Adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy was administered to 72 (68.6%) of the 105 patients and not to the remaining 33 patients. ⋯ The area under the curve for the combination of RDI and PMV (0.674) was greater than that for RDI alone (0.645). A sufficient dosage of adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy is important in improving survival of patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. A combination of RDI and PMV may predict the prognosis of patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma more effective than RDI alone.

Clinical inertia in thyrotropin suppressive therapy for low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer: A real-world experience at an endocrine center in Bangkok.
The management of low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) has evolved over time toward treatment de-escalation. However, overtreatment with supraphysiological dose of levothyroxine (LT4) continues to be observed despite current clinical guideline. This study aimed to assess the actual thyrotropin suppressive therapy for low-risk DTC patients at an endocrine center in Bangkok. ⋯ Further analysis showed that treating physicians with ≥10 years of practice was associated with severe TSH suppression therapy (TSH < 0.1 mIU/L). Despite the current clinical guideline recommendations and scientific evidences, less than one-fifth of low-risk DTC patients achieved the appropriate serum TSH target. While the proportion of an optimum LT4 suppressive had improved during the study period, further efforts are needed to overcome this clinical inertia.

The number of traffic accidents (TAs) is rising each year, and the severity of injuries can vary. Many people experience limitations in activities of daily living following TAs, affecting their quality of life. In pregnant women, even simple injuries caused by a TA could lead to unfavorable obstetric outcomes. ⋯ Major improvements were observed in the symptoms of patients who underwent integrative KM treatment after being injured in TAs. The symptoms occurred at a rate similar to those in typical pregnant women, while causality with integrative KM treatment was assessed to be unlikely or unclear. Therefore, integrative KM treatment may be considered an alternative treatment option for pregnant women who currently have limited treatment options.
