The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had a tremendous impact on the global medical system. The development of private hospitals is an important measure to deepen the reform of China's medical and health system, and an important driving force to improve the effective supply of medical services. This study aims to compare the performance of China's private hospitals before and during COVID-19 and determine the factors that affect hospital profitability between the 2 periods. ⋯ COVID-19 had also an impact on hospital efficiency. In addition, before COVID-19, current ratio and cost coverage ratio were the determinants of hospital profitability, while only cost coverage ratio affected hospital profitability during the COVID-19 outbreak. We provide evidence that COVID-19 had an impact on China private hospitals, and the findings will aid private hospitals in improving their performance in the post-COVID-19 era.

To assess the diagnostic performance of unenhanced electrocardiogram (ECG)-gated cardiac computed tomography (CT) for detecting myocardial edema, using MRI T2 mapping as the reference standard. This retrospective study protocol was approved by our institutional review board, which waived the requirement for written informed consent. Between December 2017 to February 2019, consecutive patients who had undergone T2 mapping for myocardial tissue characterization were identified. ⋯ Mean CT values provided a sensitivity of 63.2% and a specificity of 93.3% for detecting myocardial edema, with a cutoff value of ≤45.0 Hounsfield unit (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.77; P < .01). Inter-observer reproducibility in measuring mean CT values was excellent (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.93; [95% confidence interval: 0.86, 0.96]). Myocardial edema could be detected by CT value of myocardium in unenhanced ECG-gated cardiac CT.

The prognostic value of prognostic nutritional index and renal function indicators for mortality prediction in severe COVID-19 elderly patients: A retrospective study.
Identifying prognostic factors in elderly patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is crucial for clinical management. Recent evidence suggests malnutrition and renal dysfunction are associated with poor outcome. This study aimed to develop a prognostic model incorporating prognostic nutritional index (PNI), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and other parameters to predict mortality risk. ⋯ The bootstrapped area under the curve was 0.858, confirming model stability. A combination of PNI, eGFR, D-dimer, and LDH provides useful prognostic information to identify elderly patients with severe COVID-19 at highest mortality risk for early intervention. Further external validation is warranted.

Comparison of fascia iliaca block with quadratus lumborum block for hip arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The efficacy of fascia iliaca block (FIB) versus quadratus lumborum block (QLB) remains controversial for pain management of hip arthroplasty. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of FIB versus QLB on the postoperative pain intensity of hip arthroplasty. ⋯ FIB may be better than QLB for pain control after hip arthroplasty, as evidenced by the lower pain scores at 2 and 24 hours.

To investigate the regulatory patterns of Chinese patent medicine (CPM) interventions on lipid metabolism disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated by ischemic stroke. ⋯ The treatment of patients with T2DM complicated by ischemic stroke commonly involved the use of "blood-activating and stasis-removing" herbal medicines. These herbal medicines have shown effectiveness in regulating patients' blood lipid levels. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that the analysis was influenced by variations in the number and quality of RCTs involving different CPM formulations. Therefore, additional validation through large-scale, high-quality RCT studies is required.
