Parkinson disease (PD), a prevalent neurodegenerative ailment in the elderly, relies mainly on pharmacotherapy, yet deep brain stimulation (DBS) emerges as a vital remedy for refractory cases. This study performs a bibliometric analysis on DBS in PD, delving into research trends and study impact to offer comprehensive insights for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, illuminating the current state and evolutionary trajectory of research in this domain. A systematic search on March 13, 2023, in the Scopus database utilized keywords like "Parkinson disease," "PD," "Parkinsonism," "Deep brain stimulation," and "DBS." The top 1000 highly cited publications on DBS in PD underwent scientometric analysis via VOS Viewer and R Studio's Bibliometrix package, covering publication characteristics, co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, thematic clustering, and trend topics. ⋯ The bibliometric analysis emphasizes UK and US dominance, outlining 9 key research areas pivotal for reshaping Parkinson treatment. A discernible shift from invasive neurosurgery to DBS is observed. The call for personalized DBS, integration with NIBS, and exploration of innovative avenues marks the trajectory for future research.

Mild to moderate thalassemia trait (TT) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) are the most common conditions of microcytic hypochromic anemia (MHA) and they exhibit highly similar clinical and laboratory features. It is sometimes difficult to make a differential diagnosis between TT and IDA in clinical practice. Therefore, a simple, effective, and reliable index is needed to discriminate between TT and IDA. ⋯ The new, simple algorithm can be used as an effective and robust tool for the differential diagnosis of mild to moderate TT and IDA in Guangxi region, China.

Atherosclerosis (AS), as a complex chronic inflammatory disease, is 1 of the main causes of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. This study aimed to confirm the direct interaction between miR-146a-3p and NF-κB, and explore the role of miR-146a-3p/NF-κB in the regulation of inflammation in AS. ⋯ miR-146a-3p might inhibit inflammation by targeting NF-κB in AS progression, and miR-146a-3p/ NF-κB might provide novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the prevention of AS and related vascular events.

Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) incidence, progression, and metastasis are tightly linked to the tumor microenvironment (TME). The modification patterns mediated by pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in STS are unknown regarding the immune cell infiltration landscape of TME, immunotherapy effect, and prognostic value. First, we downloaded STS samples from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and gene-expression omnibus (GEO) databases. ⋯ The results from 3 anti-PD1/PD-L1-treated immune cohorts demonstrated that higher pyroptosis scores are also closely connected to better immunotherapy results. We demonstrated that pyroptosis modification is essential to the STS microenvironment. Moreover, the pyroptosis score is a reliable and independent prognostic factor in STS patients, enabling a richer understanding of the STS microenvironment and the screening of immunotherapy candidates, predicting the immunotherapeutic effects for individual STS patients, and guiding the use of chemotherapy drugs.

The causal role of body mass index (BMI) in bladder cancer (BC) by Mendelian randomization (MR) has not yet been reported. We evaluated the causal associations between the measures of obesity (BMI, waist circumference, and body fat percentage) and BC. We conducted a 2-sample MR analysis to assess the genetic effect of measures of obesity on BC. ⋯ However, the IVW method (OR = 1.49, 95% CI: 0.99-2.00, P = .05) did not report any statistical significance between body fat percentage and BC. We did not observe heterogeneity and directional pleiotropy in the 3 pairs of MR studies. The 2-sample MR analysis revealed a conceivable causal association between obesity (BMI, waist circumference) and BC.
