This research investigates the causal relationships among gut microbiota, inflammatory proteins, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), and identifies the role of inflammatory proteins as potential mediators. Our study analyzed gut microbiome data from 13,266 samples collected by the MiBioGen alliance, along with inflammatory protein data from recent research by Zhao et al, and genetic data on CD and UC from the International Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium (IIBDGC). We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the associations, complemented by replication, meta-analysis, and multivariable MR techniques for enhanced accuracy and robustness. ⋯ This research demonstrates the interactions between specific gut microbiota, inflammatory proteins, and CD and UC. Furthermore, the CD40L receptor may mediate the relationship between Defluviitaleaceae UCG-011 and CD; the Hepatocyte growth factor may mediate the relationship between Odoribacter and CD; and the C-C motif chemokine 4 may mediate the relationship between Ruminococcus2 and UC. The identified associations and mediation effects offer insights into potential therapeutic approaches targeting the gut microbiome for managing CD and UC.

Gegensan (GGS) has been reported for the treatment of alcoholic liver disease (ALD), but its therapeutic mechanism is still unclear. This paper aims to determine the therapeutic mechanism and targets of action of GGS on alcoholic liver disease utilizing network pharmacology and bioinformatics. The active ingredients in GGS were screened in the literature and databases, and common targets of ALD were then obtained from public databases to construct the network diagram of traditional Chinese medicine-active ingredient targets. ⋯ Further molecular docking showed that the core targets CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CXCL8, ADH1C, MMP1, SERPINE1, COL1A1, APOB, MMP1, and their corresponding 4 active ingredients, Naringenin, Kaempferol, Quercetin, and Stigmasterol, have a greater docking potential. The above results suggest that GGS can regulate lipid metabolism and inflammatory response in the ALD process, and alleviate the lipid accumulation and oxidative stress caused by ethanol. This study analyzed the core targets and mechanisms of action of GGS on ALD, which provides certain theoretical support for the further development of GGS in the treatment of ALD, and provides a reference for the subsequent research on the treatment of ALD.

Effects of video-assisted preanesthetic patient education on preanesthetic interview time; A prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial.
A preanesthetic evaluation interview with an anesthesiologist is essential for patient safety, however, it is not performed adequately owing to the excessive workload of doctors. This study aimed to determine whether video-assisted preanesthetic patient education can reduce patient interview time and solve the problem of excessive labor at a relatively low cost. ⋯ Watching the informational video about anesthesia before preanesthetic evaluation could reduce the interview time by an average of 24 seconds, with no difference in patients' or doctors' satisfaction or anxiety compared to patients who did not watch it. Video-assisted preanesthetic patient education indicates that the load on anesthesiologists can be reduced.

Characteristics of COVID-19 comorbidities and severity profiles among pregnant women from a single-center cross-sectional study.
The study aimed to determine the characteristics of comorbidities, association between comorbidities and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), as well as characteristics of COVID-19 severity among pregnant women at a tertiary hospital in Bandung. We conducted a cross-sectional study by taking secondary data between January 2020 and December 2021 involving 278 pregnant women aged 16 to 45 years that confirmedly diagnosed with COVID-19 via RT-PCR. We collected information from the medical record on severity and comorbidities. ⋯ Hypertension comorbid has a significant association with COVID-19 symptoms. Maternal and neonatal outcomes appear to be influenced by maternal comorbidities. Moreover, the CRP levels were found to be significant risk factors for COVID-19 severity in pregnant women that might have association with comorbidities.

Eczema is a common skin disease associated with inflammation. Interleukin (IL)-24 is crucial in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases like eczema. The study objective was the assessment of IL-24 serum levels and its gene polymorphisms in eczematic Iraqi patients. ⋯ For the second SNP genotype (rs3093425 del/ins), the genotype frequencies in patients vs control were (24.4% vs 84.1%, 50.0% vs 11.1%, and 25.6% vs 4.8; Del/Del, Del/Ins, and Ins/Ins, respectively). The presence of Ins compared to Del increased the risk of eczema by 8.91 (4.66-17.03); OR (95% CI). In conclusion, IL-24 is a good predictor of eczema and A-allele carrier for rs1150256 SNP, and insertion-allele carrier for rs3093425 SNP is associated with elevated serum IL-24 and higher risk of eczema.
