Inefficient blood transfusions present a significant challenge, leading to the wastage of crucial blood resources and increased medical expenses. This study aims to address this issue by providing a comprehensive analysis of a case involving an ineffective clinical transfusion and outlining the significance of identifying multiple alloantibodies in resolving transfusion challenges. ⋯ This study underscores the importance of conducting a thorough analysis of ineffective transfusions and implementing scientifically formulated transfusion plans based on rational explanations. Such an approach not only improves hemoglobin levels but also contributes to better patient outcomes, thereby reducing blood resource wastage and medical costs.

Treatment strategies for rectal squamous cell carcinoma (rSCC) are yet to be established, given its rarity. Although squamous cell carcinoma has been reported to be highly sensitive to cetuximab and radiation, there is no report of combination therapy of cetuximab and radiation for rSCC. In this study, we firstly reported a case of rSCC in which a complete response was achieved with the original chemoradiotherapy comprising oxaliplatin, S-1, cetuximab, and simultaneous radiation. ⋯ This case firstly highlights the usefulness of SOX plus cetuximab combined with radiation in the treatment of locally advanced rSCC. However, a large-scale study is required to establish safe and effective treatment regimens.

Breast cancer is a global health concern that significantly impacts the quality of life (QOL) of individuals. This study aims to comprehensively examine the interplay between QOL and depression among nonmetastatic breast cancer patients in Lebanon, a region with limited research in this context. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Hammoud Hospital-University Medical Center from January 2018 to January 2023. ⋯ Breast cancer's impact on QOL is profound, falling below that of other chronic conditions. Education empowers coping, while comorbidities impact QOL. Our findings emphasize the multidimensional nature of breast cancer care, advocating for holistic support and addressing emotional well-being.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between international commission on illumination (CIE) L*a*b* color value of tongue and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We used restricted cubic spline method and logistic regression method to assess the relationship between CIE L*a*b* color value of tongue and T2DM. A total of 2439 participants (991 T2DM and 1448 healthy) were included. ⋯ Furthermore, U-shaped and linear dose-response associations were identified between T2DM and CIE b* values (P = .0160 for nonlinear). Additionally, in adults, the CIE L*a*b* color value had a correlation with T2DM. This novel perspective provides a multidimensional understanding of traditional Chinese medicine tongue color, elucidating the potential of CIE L*a*b* color values of tongue in the diagnosis of T2DM.

Role conflict is defined as pressures resulting from multiple job requirements that are perceived as incompatible. The purpose of this population-based cross-sectional study was to explore the current situation and influencing factors of high-level role conflict among clinical teachers at 4 affiliated hospitals of 3 medical universities in southern China. A self-administered online questionnaire was used for data collection through an online survey platform. ⋯ The study found that primary, intermediate, and deputy senior professional title, having a leadership position in the department, and devoting a lot of time to teaching work were associated with an increasing risk of the occurrence of high-level role conflict (all P < .05). However, undertaking moderate or few/very few clinical teaching workloads, keeping clinical teachers informed of the teaching requirements, getting guidance and help from colleagues, and thinking of the teaching work as their obligation were significantly associated with decreasing risks of high-level role conflict (all P < .05). Teaching management departments in hospitals might carry out regular and systematic professional training for clinical teachers to effectively decrease role conflict and improve the quality of clinical teaching.
