The link between celiac disease (CeD) and thyroid dysfunction has been investigated. However, it is uncertain if CeD is causally linked to thyroid dysfunction. A 2-sample Mendelian randomization study was conducted to ascertain the causal connection between CeD and thyroid dysfunction. ⋯ However, no significant associations were found between CeD and thyroid-stimulating hormone or thyroiditis. Moreover, we achieve the same results in duplicate datasets, which increases the reliability of our findings. This study suggests that CeD and thyroid dysfunction are linked, and it gives theoretical support and new ways of thinking about how to diagnose and treat both conditions.

Eczema is a common skin disease associated with inflammation. Interleukin (IL)-24 is crucial in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases like eczema. The study objective was the assessment of IL-24 serum levels and its gene polymorphisms in eczematic Iraqi patients. ⋯ For the second SNP genotype (rs3093425 del/ins), the genotype frequencies in patients vs control were (24.4% vs 84.1%, 50.0% vs 11.1%, and 25.6% vs 4.8; Del/Del, Del/Ins, and Ins/Ins, respectively). The presence of Ins compared to Del increased the risk of eczema by 8.91 (4.66-17.03); OR (95% CI). In conclusion, IL-24 is a good predictor of eczema and A-allele carrier for rs1150256 SNP, and insertion-allele carrier for rs3093425 SNP is associated with elevated serum IL-24 and higher risk of eczema.

Optimizing the connection of CRRT and ECMO lines with additional pressure regulator on the therapeutic effect, filter life, and incidence of complications.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is used for severe cardiopulmonary failure, with veno-arterial ECMO for cardiogenic shock and veno-venous ECMO for acute respiratory failure. ECMO's application has expanded to ICUs, emergency departments, and operating rooms. ECMO patients are at high risk for complications, including acute kidney injury (AKI), often requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT), posing significant management challenges. ⋯ This study demonstrates that additional pressure regulation devices are installed at the line connection between the CRRT input end and the CRRT return end to ensure that the flow rate of ECMO does not affect the CRRT treatment. ECMO and CRRT provide a safe pressure range so that the ECMO line can be safely connected to the CRRT machine at physiological pressure, reducing the occurrence of complications related to CRRT machine interruption and improving the efficiency of CRRT without affecting the efficiency of ECMO, ensuring patient safety.

Cardiac complications (arrhythmias and heart failure) in patients with ischemic stroke: A meta-analysis.
In patients with ischemic stroke (pwIS), cardiac complications have been observed in observational studies. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the arrhythmias and heart failure in pwIS. ⋯ Our results revealed that there is a comparatively higher risk of cardiac complications in pwIS; however, more research is needed to evaluate the risk of cardiac complications in pwIS.

Efficacy of knee osteoarthritis by use of laser acupuncture: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Previous studies need to be aggregated and updated. We aim to assess the efficacy of laser acupuncture (LA) in knee osteoarthritis (OA) through a meta-analysis. ⋯ Laser acupuncture is more or less effective in patients with OA; better efficacy will be achieved under appropriate laser parameters (810 nm, 785 nm) in the LA versus Sham LA group. Many studies have diverse results, possibly due to unstaged analysis of patients' disease, inappropriate selection of acupoints, lack of remote combined acupoints, and unreasonable laser parameters. Furthermore, a combination of acupoints was found to be more effective, which aligns with the combined-acupoints application of traditional Chinese medicine.
