Positive effect of self-exercise following Botulinum toxin injection on the permanence of the recovery among the patients with HFS and BFS: A clinical trial.
Botulinum toxin (BoNT) injection serves as the primary modality for addressing hemifacial spasm (HFS) and blepharospasm (BFS), which are prevalent movement disorders affecting the craniofacial region. However, even though the short-term effectiveness of the botulinum injection may reach over 80%, the long-term effectiveness is still a debatable point Herein, we aim to investigate whether facial self-exercise following the BoNT injection can extend the time period of effectiveness. ⋯ Facial self-exercise following the botulinum toxin application may extend the period of effectiveness of botulinum toxin treatment the subjects with HFS and BFS.

Reproducibility of pop sensation, Thompson sign in achillotomy, and final Pirani score to predict clubfoot relapse: Achillotomy clinical signs and Pirani predictive ability.
Ultrasound (US) can guide and confirm percutaneous release of the achilles tendon in the clubfoot. However, this technique may not always be available; therefore, surgeons' reported feelings of tendon release ("click" or "pop") and the Thompson sign could demonstrate that they are sensitive and reliable for confirming complete tendon release. The purpose of this study was to compare the reproducibility of clinical maneuvers that aim to detect the reported "click" or "pop" sensation by the surgeon and the Thompson sign after surgical release in percutaneous achilles tenotomy compare with US in patients with clubfoot. ⋯ The Pirani final score, a predictor of recurrence risk, had an area under the curve of 0.80 (95% CI = 0.63-0.97; P = .005), Se = 0.78, and Sp = 0.56, with a cutoff point of 2.75. The feeling of achilles tendon release and Thompson sign had high sensitivity, prevalence, accuracy, and posttest probability. The confirmation of tendon release based on clinical signs could prevent the use of US.

Clinical and pathogenic characteristics of infectious endophthalmitis in children: A retrospective analysis.
Infective endophthalmitis is an ophthalmic infection that in severe cases can cause complete loss of vision. In children, the defense against infection is low and eye tissue is not fully developed, leading to increased vulnerability to endophthalmitis. Children may be unable to understand the symptoms; thus, developing a method for prevention and treatment of this disease in children is important. ⋯ Trauma is the main factor leading to infectious endophthalmitis in children, wherein Gram-positive bacteria are the most common pathogens. Thus, a timely understanding of the pathogen and drug sensitivity is needed. Intravitreal injection and vitrectomy are effective treatments.

To investigate the efficacy of 3 root canal sealants such as AH Plus, GuttaFlow and iRoot SP combined with warm gutta-percha vertical compression technique in the treatment of dental pulp disease. This was a single-center retrospective study. 180 patients with dental pulp disease were divided into AH Plus group (n = 60), GuttaFlow group (n = 60) and iRoot SP group (n = 60) according to the different treatment methods. Patients in different groups were treated with corresponding root canal sealant combined with warm gutta-percha vertical compression technique. ⋯ The time-point effect, intergroup effect and time-groups effect of serum TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly different (P < .001), and the levels of the 3 groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < .05), and the levels were significantly lower in the GuttaFlow group and the iRoot SP group (P < .05). There were significant differences in efficacy grading and effective rate among the 3 groups (P = .028), and the effective rate of iRoot SP group was significantly higher than that of AH Plus group (P < .05). The iRoot SP or GuttaFlow as root canal sealant combined with warm gutta-percha vertical compression technique in the treatment of dental pulp disease is better than AH Plus, and the former one can shorten the filling time, relieve the postoperative pain and improve the inflammatory response, but the long-term apical sealing effect of iRoot SP is better than GuttaFlow.

We aimed to investigate whether sarcopenia and its components are associated with osteoporosis in community-dwelling older Chinese adults with different obesity levels. This cross-sectional study included 1938 participants (42.1% male) with a mean age of 72.1 ± 5.9 years. The categorization of individuals into various weight categories was based on the Working Group on Obesity in China's criteria, utilizing the body mass index (BMI) as follows: underweight, BMI < 18.5 kg/m2; normal weight, 18.5 ≤ BMI < 24 kg/m2; overweight, 24 ≤ BMI < 28 kg/m2; and obesity, BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2. ⋯ Further longitudinal follow-up studies are required to more accurately assess the risk of osteoporosis and sarcopenia in different weight populations. This cross-sectional study found that the prevalence of osteoporosis was highest in the underweight group and gradually decreased with increasing BMI. Sarcopenia was associated with elevated odds of osteoporosis in normal-weight subjects independent of potential covariates.
