Analysis of risk factors for the sigmoid stoma complications in patients after abdominoperineal resection surgery: An observational study.
To analyze the risk factors for intraperitoneal sigmoid stoma complications after abdominoperineal resection (APR) surgery to guide clinical practice. Patients who were diagnosed with rectal cancer and underwent APR surgery from June 2013 to June 2021 were retrospectively enrolled. The characteristics of the stoma complication group and the no stoma complication group were compared, and univariate and multivariate logistic analyses were employed to identify risk factors for sigmoid stoma-related complications. ⋯ Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that operation time was an independent risk factor (P < .05, OR = 1.005, 95% CI = 1.000-1.010) for short-term stoma complications. Both the short-term and long-term stoma complication rates in our institution were low. A longer operation time was an independent risk factor for short-term stoma complications after APR surgery.

Two-sample Mendelian randomization studies revealed a causal relationship between insulin use and osteoporosis: An observational study.
To investigate causal associations between diabetes, insulin treatment and osteoporosis using LDSC analysis with a 2-way Mendelian randomization study. ⋯ There was a strong genetic correlation between diabetes, insulin treatment and osteoporosis, a causal association between diabetes, insulin treatment and osteoporosis, and no causal association between osteoporosis and diabetes, insulin treatment.

Expression of SUMO and NF-κB genes in hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma patients: An observational study.
Alterations in signaling pathways and modulation of cell metabolism are associated with the pathogenesis of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins and NF-κB family play major roles in various cellular processes. The current study aims to determine the expression profile of SUMO and NF-κB genes in HCC tumors and investigate their association with the clinical outcome of HCC. ⋯ In HCC tissues, a strong correlation was observed between the expression of SUMO2 and NF-κB p50, between SUMO3 and NF-κB p50, between SUMO3 and NF-κB p65 (Spearman rho = 0.83; 0.82; 0.772 respectively; P < .001). The expression of SUMO1, SUMO2, SUMO3, NF-κB p65, and NF-κB p50 was decreased in grade 3 compared to grades 1 and 2 in HCC tumors according to the World Health Organization grades system. Our results highlighted that the SUMO2 gene is upregulated in tumor tissues of patients with HCC, and is related to the development of HCC, thus it may be associated with the pathogenesis of HCC.

Mining and exploration of appendicitis nursing targets: An observational study.
Appendicitis is an inflammation caused by obstruction of the appendiceal lumen or termination of blood supply leading to appendiceal necrosis followed by secondary bacterial infection. The relationship between TYROBP gene and the nursing of appendicitis remains unclear. The appendicitis dataset GSE9579 profile was downloaded from the gene expression omnibus database generated from GPL571. ⋯ Comparative Toxicogenomics Database analysis found that core genes (FCGR2A, IL1B, ITGAM, TLR2, TYROBP) were closely related to abdominal pain, gastrointestinal dysfunction, fever, and inflammation occurrence. TYROBP gene is highly expressed in appendicitis, and higher expression of TYROBP gene indicates worse prognosis. TYROBP may serve as a molecular target for appendicitis and its nursing.

Understanding the knowledge and attitudes of university students regarding organ transplantation and donation is crucial, as these students can significantly influence public opinion and behavior. This study aims to assess the knowledge and attitudes of North Cyprus University students towards organ transplantation and donation. ⋯ This study highlights the necessity for educational interventions and awareness campaigns to improve understanding and attitudes towards organ donation among Northern Cyprus University students. Incorporating organ donation education into university curricula, providing accurate online information, addressing misconceptions, and promoting awareness of donation centers and transplant hospitals are essential steps to mitigate organ shortages. Public engagement should be encouraged to foster a supportive environment for organ donation.
