Adequate infectious disease-specific health literacy (IDSHL) is of benefit to residents in dealing with infectious diseases. This study aimed to investigate the methods by which residents acquire knowledge about infectious disease prevention and control (IDPC knowledge) so as to find effective health education methods used to improve residents' IDSHL level. In 2022, a cross-sectional study was conducted in Shandong Province, China. ⋯ Age (P < .001), education (P < .05), occupation (P < .05), and annual family income (P < .01) were associated with methods to acquire IDPC knowledge. The rural residents' adequate IDSHL in Shandong Province, China, was not optimistic. The combination of traditional methods and Internet publicity platforms should take greater responsibility for IDSHL health education among rural populations.

Integrative Korean medicine treatment for inpatients with osteoarthritis of the knee: An observational study.
The use of integrative Korean medicine treatment (IKMT) for patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) has been reported previously; however, to date, no studies have investigated the long-term prognosis of these patients following IKMT for primary knee OA. We aimed to examine the long-term effects of IKMT in patients diagnosed with primary knee OA and receiving IKMT during hospitalization. This retrospective observational study, complemented by a follow-up survey, included patients with primary knee OA who received IKMT during hospitalization across 7 Korean medicine hospitals. ⋯ Regarding Patient Global Impression of Change, 96.30% of the patients reported improvement. IKMT was effective in improving pain, functional disability, and quality of life in patients with primary knee OA. Its effects were maintained throughout the long-term follow-up period, and physical functions continuously improved.

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are frequently hospitalized for heart failure. The ratio of early diastolic mitral inflow velocity to early diastolic mitral annulus velocity (E/e'), measured by echocardiography, is a simple and convenient indicator of diastolic dysfunction. Various large clinical trials have reported that sodium glucose transporter-2 inhibitor therapy reduced cardiovascular events and hospitalizations in heart failure patients. ⋯ Mixed-effects models showed time-dependent reduction of E/e' in high/low brain natriuretic peptide, high/low eGFR, with or without diuretics between baseline and at 6 months. The interaction with time was significant in high/low eGFR. Tofogliflozin was shown to improve E/e', a measure of diastolic function, while maintaining EF, with hypoglycemic effects and no clinical side effects.

Analysis of risk factors affecting postoperative neurological recovery in patients with cervical spine fracture in ankylosing spondylitis.
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic progressive inflammatory disease that mainly affects the spine and involves the sacroiliac and peripheral joints. Low-energy trauma can often lead to spinal fractures and spinal cord injuries (SCIs), the treatment of AS is challenging. The prognosis of neurological function in patients with AS cervical fracture and SCI is a major problem that must sought clinician attention on urgent basis. ⋯ Binary multivariate logistic regression analysis identified spinal hypersignal (OR = 37.185, P = .028), preoperative ASIA score (OR = 0.16, P = .012) and previous AS drug treatment (OR = 0.296, P = .049) as factors associated with postoperative neurological function improvement. The preoperative ASIA score and previous drug treatment of AS were identified as protective factors affecting the improvement of neurological functions in patients with AS cervical fracture after surgery. Preoperative T2-weighted spinal hypersignal was identified as an independent risk factor affecting the improvement of neurological function recovery in patients with AS cervical fracture after the surgery.

The mTOR-inhibitor everolimus is a precision drug with antiepileptogenic properties approved for treatment of epilepsy in persons with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in combination with other antiseizure medications (ASMs). However, the pharmacokinetic variability of everolimus is scarcely described, and the available information on pharmacokinetic interactions is scarce. The purpose of this study was to investigate pharmacokinetic variability of everolimus in patients with TSC, and the impact of age, sex and comedication. ⋯ Age and sex were not significantly associated with changes in C/D-ratios of everolimus. Long-term TDM identified extensive variability in concentrations over time for everolimus both within and between patients, where comedication with enzyme-inducing ASMs was an important contributing factor. The findings suggest a need for TDM in patients with TSC treated with everolimus.
