We aimed to investigate and summarize dietary patterns and explore the association between dietary patterns and metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components among adult residents in a rapidly urbanized city. We employed a multi-stage random sampling method to select 1000 adult residents who underwent a comprehensive survey, including questionnaires, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was made when the participant met 3 or more of the 5 criteria outlined in the "2017 Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 diabetes." Factor analysis and a nonconditioned logistic regression model were used. ⋯ The coastal pattern was associated with a significantly lower prevalence of MS (P < .001), elevated blood pressure (P < .001), and high triglyceride levels (P = .03). However, in the multivariate analysis, we found no significant associations between dietary patterns and MS or its components after adjusting the demographic characteristics and behaviors, even when the P-value was close to .05. In this study, we did not find an association between dietary patterns and MS and its components after adjusting covariates as much as possible in Pingshan, Shenzhen, a rapidly urbanized city, but underscore the potential health benefits of the coastal dietary pattern, which highlights the importance of conducting further research for a comprehensive understanding.

Plasma atherogenicity index is a powerful indicator for identifying metabolic syndrome in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A cross-sectional study.
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Elevated triglyceride (TG) levels and decreased high-density lipoprotein levels (HDL-C) are predisposing factors for the development of ASCVD. Evidence on the association between atherosclerotic index of plasma [AIP = log (TG/HDL-C)] and MetS is limited. ⋯ ROC curve analysis, AIP was an accurate indicator for assessing MetS in type 2 diabetics (AUC = 0.840, 95% CI: 0.819-0.862). AIP is a stable and independently powerful predictor of MetS in T2DM patients. AIP can be used as a simple assessment tool for the early detection of MetS and disease management for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Long-term changes in bone mineral density and associated risk factors in individuals with spinal cord injury: A retrospective study.
Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) experience a notable decrease in bone mass below the level of injury. While studies have primarily focused on the acute phase with a small cohort, this study aimed to provide comprehensive insights into bone loss patterns over time. A total of 427 individuals with SCI who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) testing at the Korea National Rehabilitation Center (2010-2021) were included and analyzed by categorizing the DXA results into 1-year intervals based on postinjury duration. ⋯ Additionally, during the chronic phase, lower Korean Spinal Cord Independence Measure 3rd edition scores were associated with low bone mass. Significant annual bone loss in the hip region persists for up to 3 years postinjury in individuals with SCI. While prioritizing the risk factors for osteoporosis commonly used in the general population, applying the SCIM score in the chronic phase may provide additional information on bone loss risk.

Spinal stenosis is a prevalent degenerative spinal disease and one of the main causes of pain and dysfunction in older adults. Substantial evidence indicates a potentially relevant association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and spinal stenosis. However, the causality between these 2 disorders remains unclear. ⋯ The results of the sensitivity analysis suggest that causality is steady and robust. Multivariate MR results demonstrated that the causality of T2DM on spinal stenosis was not related to BMI (OR, 1.047; 95% CI: 1.003-1.093; P = .032). MR analyses demonstrated a possible positive causal relationship between T2DM and spinal stenosis and that this causality was unrelated to BMI.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can significantly improve health indicators such as cardiopulmonary function, metabolic efficiency, and muscle strength in a short period. However, due to significant physiological and metabolic differences between males and females, the effects of HIIT vary between genders. Therefore, exploring the specific impacts of HIIT on women's health is crucial. Although there is a considerable amount of individual research on the impact of HIIT on women's health, a systematic bibliometric analysis is still lacking. ⋯ This field has emerged as a research hotspot with international characteristics and extensive academic productivity. Journals and cited journals hold high academic influence, with highly cited and bursty references laying a solid theoretical and practical foundation for the field. In the rapid development of the past decade, research hotspots and frontier directions such as metabolic adaptation, muscle adaptation, cardiovascular health, exercise performance, and personalized training plans have been formed.
