Impact of dry eye disease on psychological symptoms among Chinese doctoral students studying abroad.
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of dry eye disease (DED) on depression, anxiety, and stress among Chinese doctoral students studying abroad. This is a cross-sectional study. This study enrolled 185 Chinese doctoral students pursuing education in the Philippines. ⋯ Univariate analysis of variances indicated that DED severity had a significant impact on anxiety F(3, 125) = 6.06, P = .001 and stress F(3, 125) = 3.00, P = .033. A higher influence of DED was related to stress and anxiety. Anxiety and stress levels increase with the severity of DED.

MORC family CW-type zinc finger 2 (MORC2) is a newly identified chromatin remodeling protein, and has been proposed as a prognostic biomarker associated with survival in some types of human cancer, but the role of MORC2 in cervical cancer remains unknown. Here, we investigated the role of MORC2 expression in predicting the survival outcomes of locally advanced cervical cancer patients treated with cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). In this retrospectively study, we detected MORC2 immunohistochemical expression on 55 biopsies from patients who underwent CCRT. ⋯ MORC2 expression was positively associated with pelvic node metastasis and locoregional failure. Higher MORC2 expression was a significant indicator of worse PFS. Our results suggest that MORC2 expression may be a prognostic indicator in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer undergoing CCRT.

In this research, it was aimed to evaluate of social and community factors effective in increasing the number of liver donors. Descriptive and relational scanning models were used to conduct the research. Data on liver donors was gathered from the USA Health Resources & Services Administration's Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network between 1988 and 2023. ⋯ Effects of significantly correlated community factors on living liver donor numbers were found to be statistically insignificant (P > .05). Research findings reveal that among community factors, especially women's participation in education has a statistically significant effect on liver donors. These results show that the health expenditures made over the years do not provide any added value for liver donors, and role of women on liver donor is significantly dominant.

The relationship between systemic inflammation and hearing loss (HL) remains unclear. To investigate the association between the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and objective HL, this study was performed. Participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2005 to 2018 were analyzed. ⋯ In the full model, increasing SII index per SD was associated with HL (OR: 1.17, 95% CI: 1.09-1.26, P < .001) and HFHL (OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.06-1.21, P < .001). The significance of SFHL was not detected with the increasing SII index (OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 0.94-1.37, P > .05). SII score was associated with HL and HFHL in the general adult population of the United States, but was not significantly correlated with SFHL.

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA) as 2 types of autoimmune diseases are frequently concomitant, and Mendelian randomization (MR) was applied in this study to assess the causal relationship between them. In this study, single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was used as the instrumental variable for Mendelian analysis, and the SNP data of GCA and PMR were obtained from the FinnGen Biobank databases. SNPs are significantly correlated with GCA and PMR and were screened based on preset thresholds. ⋯ MR analysis indicates that GCA increases the risk of PMR and PMR is an important risk factor for GCA, with a causal relationship. The potential value of reasonable management of PMR in patients with GCA has received high attention. In addition, novel GCA therapeutics may be indicated for PMR, and it is a potential for further investigation.
