There are limited studies on the phase angle (PhA) and sarcopenic obesity (SO) in the Chinese population. This study aimed to establish 50 kHz-PhA reference data for SO population, and to evaluate the correlation between 50 kHz-PhA and SO. A total of 10,312 participants including 5415 men and 4897 women were enrolled in this study, and their resistance and reactance at 50 kHz, and body composition parameters were measured a segmental multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis device (InBody 720). ⋯ The optimal cutoff value was ≤ 5.55° (specificity 0.693, sensitivity 0.759) for males and ≤4.79° (specificity 0.687, sensitivity 0.738) for females. In conclusion, 50 kHz-PhA can be used as a predictor of SO, with cutoff values of ≤5.55° for males and ≤4.79° for females. This simple and practical method of using 50 kHz-PhA to predict SO could be valuable in clinical practice.

Observational Study
Analysis of influencing factors for complications of anterior thoracolumbar tuberculosis surgery in adults.
This study analyzes the risk factors related to the complications of anterior thoracolumbar tuberculosis in adults and to provide clinical reference. A total of 98 adult patients with thoracolumbar tuberculosis undergoing anterior surgery in our hospital from February 2020 to December 2023 were selected, and the clinical data and postoperative complications were collected. The clinical characteristics were analyzed, and the risk factors related to surgical complications were analyzed by univariate analysis and multi-factor logistic regression model. ⋯ Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that age over 60 years old, preoperative Hb < 100 g/L, blood loss ≥ 800 mL, bone graft fusion method were independent risk factors for anterior postoperative complications of thoracolumbar tuberculosis (P < .05). The independent risk factors for surgical complications of anterior thoracolumbar tuberculosis were age over 60 years old, preoperative Hb < 100 g/L, blood loss ≥ 800 mL, titanium cage by bone graft fusion. Controlling these variable factors before operation can reduce the incidence of postoperative complications.

Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis (TB), a rare form of tuberculosis outside the lungs, can affect any organ or tissue in the body. It is difficult to diagnose because of nonspecific symptoms, often leading to delayed confirmation after the initial patient visit. Clinical manifestations such as cervical lymphadenopathy and irregular mucosal surfaces can be challenging to distinguish from nasopharyngeal cancer or malignant lymphoma. ⋯ Awareness and precise evaluation are key to avoiding misdiagnosis, particularly when confronted with diverse clinical presentations. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis, although relatively rare, presents unique diagnostic challenges. Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis, in particular, lacks a definitive diagnostic method, often necessitating a combination of clinical suspicion, imaging studies, microbiological tests, and histopathological examination for confirmation. The absence of specific symptoms and the variability in presentation further compound the diagnostic dilemma. Given the potential consequences of misdiagnosis, further exploration and discussion on this issue are warranted. Enhanced awareness among healthcare providers, coupled with advancements in diagnostic modalities, are essential in ensuring timely and accurate differentiation between nasopharyngeal malignancies and tuberculosis, thereby facilitating appropriate management and improving patient outcomes.

Anemia is a worldwide public health problem and is associated with platelet disorders. The relationship between anemia and platelets is complex, with the association being either normal platelet count or thrombocytosis. Platelets are significantly decreased in patients with anemia, and thrombocytopenia has been documented in patients with severe anemia. ⋯ Morphologically, 44.32% were microcytic hypochromic anemia, 53.98% were normocytic normochromic anemia and 1.70% were macrocytic anemia. The findings showed that platelet count variation correlates well with red cell indices and morphologic types of anemia in adult anemic patients. Such correlation will enable physicians to make diagnoses and administer treatments.

Blind nasoenteric tube placement risks: A case report of misplacement into the pleural cavity.
Enteral nutrition is a critical component of care for critically ill patients. However, the blind insertion of a nasoenteric tube, despite being a simple procedure, carries inherent risks that necessitate a reevaluation of the technique. ⋯ The case prompts a reevaluation of blind placement techniques and calls for the adoption of more reliable technologies to prevent similar incidents and ensure patient safety, such as electromagnetic and visualized guided placement technique.
