A resting-state functional MRI study in patients with vestibular migraine during interictal period.
To evaluate the spontaneous neuronal activities and the changes of brain functional network in patients with vestibular migraine (VM). Three groups including18 patients with VM, 21 patients with migraine without aura (MWoA) and 21 healthy controls (HCs) underwent the scanning of the resting-state fMRI. Covariance analysis and bonferroni multiple comparisons were used to obtain brain regions with significant differences in amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) values. ⋯ In addition, compared with MWoA patients, patients with VM showed significantly higher ALFF in the right lingual gyrus (P < 0.05). (2) Compared with HCs, VM patients showed significantly higher FC among the cerebellum, the left dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus and the right putamen (P < 0.05) but significantly lower FC among the left median cingulate, paracingulate gyri and the right putamen (P < 0.05). Compared with MWoA patients, VM patients showed significantly higher FC between the cerebellum and the right putamen (P < 0.05) but significantly lower FC among the left median cingulate, paracingulate gyri and the right putamen (P < 0.05). There are functional abnormalities in nociceptive, vestibular and visual cortex regions in patients with VM during the interictal period.

Utility of phrenic nerve ultrasound in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting the upper and lower motor neurons causing progressive weakness. It eventually involves the diaphragm which leads to respiratory paralysis and subsequently death. Phrenic nerve (PN) conduction studies and diaphragm ultrasound has been studied and correlated with pulmonary function tests in ALS patients. ⋯ The PN CSA of ALS patients were significantly decreased compared to controls (p value < 0.00001). The PN CSA of ALS patients was not correlated to any of the demographic and clinical parameters tested. This study demonstrates that ALS patients have a smaller PN size compared to controls using ultrasonography.

ReviewFacing acute neuromuscular diseases during COVID-19 pandemic: focus on Guillain-Barré syndrome.
In December 2019, a cluster of cases with 2019 Novel Coronavirus pneumonia from Wuhan, China, aroused worldwide concern due to an escalating outbreak in all the countries in the world. Coronavirus belongs to a family of single-stranded RNA viruses, which includes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV), that have caused human epidemics with high fatality. The spectrum of the novel coronavirus disease (SARS-Co-2 or COVID-19) ranges from asymptomatic infections to fatal pneumonia, and differs from other viral pulmonary infections. ⋯ Extensive reports from China documented central and peripheral nervous system involvement in patients with COVID-19, and identified in angiotensin converting enzyme2 (ACE2), which is present in multiple human organs, the functional receptor for this virus. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has recently been associated to COVID-19 rising concern among physicians. This review summarizes the current state of knowledge on GBS during or after COVID-19 infection, attempting to clarify the pathophysiology of the associated respiratory dysfunction and failure.

Association of dynamic and widespread mechanical sensitivity in cluster headache.
We investigated if dynamic pressure pain sensitivity in the symptomatic area is associated with pressure sensitivity in local and distant pain-free areas in cluster headache (CH). A pressure algometry set consisting of 8 rollers with fixed pressure levels ranging from 500 to 5300 g was used to assess dynamic pressure pain sensitivity in men with episodic CH. Each roller was moved from an anterior-to-posterior direction over the temporalis muscle. ⋯ Further, DPT, but not roller-evoked pain, was moderately associated with PPTs measured at the symptomatic (temporalis: r = 0.665, P < 0.001) and distant pain-free (C5-C6 joint: r = 0.389, P = 0.013; second metacarpal: r = 0.551, P < 0.001; and, tibialis anterior: r = 0.308, P = 0.035) points. Dynamic pressure sensitivity in the trigeminal area was correlated to pressure pain sensitivity at both symptomatic and distant pain-free areas in men with CH supporting the use of roller pressure algometry. Dynamic pressure algometry may be a new tool for assessing the status of sensitization in primary headaches.
