Postprandial hypotension predicts all-cause mortality in older, low-level care residents.
To evaluate which indices of blood pressure (BP) homeostasis are the strongest predictors of mortality in older low-level-care residents in long-term health facilities. ⋯ In older low-level-care residents, PPH is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality with no added predictive value explained by other BP indices: OH, hypertension, PP, MAP.

Reduction in fear of falling through intense tai chi exercise training in older, transitionally frail adults.
To determine whether an intense tai chi exercise program could reduce fear of falling better than a wellness education (WE) program in older adults who had fallen previously and meet criteria for transitioning to frailty. ⋯ Tai chi led to a significantly greater reduction in fear of falling than a WE program in transitionally frail older adults. The mean percentage change in ABC scores widened between tai chi and WE participants over the trial period. Tai chi should be considered in any program designed to reduce falling and fear of falling in transitionally frail older adults.

A pilot investigation of the short-term effects of an interdisciplinary intervention program on elderly patients with hip fracture in Taiwan.
To evaluate an interdisciplinary intervention program for older people with hip fracture in Taiwan. ⋯ This intervention program may benefit older people with hip fractures in Taiwan by improving their clinical outcomes, self-care abilities, and HRQOL and by decreasing depressive symptoms within 3 months after discharge.

The effect of a social work intervention to enhance advance care planning documentation in the nursing home.
To assess the effect of a multicomponent advance care planning intervention directed at nursing home social workers on identification and documentation of preferences for medical treatments and on patient outcomes. ⋯ This generalizable intervention directed at nursing home social workers significantly improved the documentation and identification of patients' wishes regarding common life-sustaining treatments and resulted in a higher concordance between patients' prior stated wishes and treatments received.

Pharmacotherapy of pain in depressed older adults.
To examine pharmacotherapy for pain in a sample of 1,801 depressed older primary care patients. ⋯ Most depressed older adults in the sample reported recent functional impairment from pain and a history of chronic pain, but almost half of those with functional impairment from pain did not report using analgesic medications. Participating organizations varied substantially in their use of analgesics, suggesting that there is room to improve the quality of pain management in depressed older adults.
