Image-guided surgery: applications to the cervical and thoracic spine and a review of the first 120 procedures.
The authors undertook a study to demonstrate that frameless stereotaxy can be applied safely to the cervical and thoracic spine to minimize complications and associated morbidity. ⋯ Image-guidance systems are useful intraoperative tools that can be applied accurately to spinal surgery. In addition, such systems can be of great use in the preoperative planning of complex spinal surgery.

Is cerebral perfusion pressure a major determinant of cerebral blood flow during head elevation in comatose patients with severe intracranial lesions?
Head elevation as a treatment for lower intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with intracranial hypertension has been challenged in recent years. Therefore, the authors studied the effect of head position on cerebral hemodynamics in patients with severe head injury. ⋯ During head elevation the arteriovenous pressure gradient is the major determinant of CBF. The influence of CPP on CBF decreases from 0 to 45 degrees of head elevation.
