Transsylvian transopercular peri-central core hemispherotomy for treating epilepsy: anatomy, surgical technique, and clinical outcome.
The objective of this study was to display the anatomical landmarks, surgical technique, and clinical outcome of transsylvian transopercular peri-central core hemispherotomy (TTPH) for treating refractory epilepsy. ⋯ TTPH offers anatomical landmarks as intraoperative guides and has achieved good seizure control and low complication rates.

Core outcomes in nerve surgery: development of a core outcome set for common peroneal (fibular) neuropathy.
Common peroneal (fibular) neuropathy is the most common mononeuropathy of the lower extremity. Despite this, there are surprisingly few studies on the topic, and a knowledge gap remains in the literature. As one attempts to address this knowledge gap, a core outcome set (COS) is needed to guide the planning phases of future studies to allow synthesis and comparability of these studies. The objective of this study was to develop the COS-common peroneal neuropathy (CoPe) using a modified Delphi approach. ⋯ The COINS Consortium developed a consensus COS and provided definitions, methods of implementation, and time points for assessment. The COS-CoPe should serve as a minimum set of data that should be collected in all future neurosurgical studies on common peroneal neuropathy. Incorporation of this COS should help improve consistency in reporting, data synthesis, and comparability, and should minimize outcome reporting bias.

Awake versus asleep deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has become an effective and safe treatment in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) not responding to conventional treatments. With the growing body of literature regarding the use of DBS in different movement disorders, there remain controversies regarding performing awake or asleep DBS. This systematic review provides the most comprehensive review of the literature comparing the two techniques from various aspects in detail. ⋯ These findings suggest comparable clinical outcomes between the two DBS approaches. The two methods had their salient differences in terms of lead passes and specific adverse events. The decision to perform awake or asleep DBS should be based on the patient's preference, the surgeon's experience, the availability of advanced intraoperative imaging, and the patient's tolerance for specific adverse events.

Impact of standardized care guidelines featuring next-day discharge on outcome, healthcare consumption, and patient healthcare experience in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus receiving ventriculoperitoneal shunts.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of standardized care guidelines featuring next-day discharge on hospital length of stay (LOS), outcomes, patient experience, and healthcare consumption in patients receiving ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPSs) for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). ⋯ Standardized discharge guidelines featuring next-day discharge are safe for iNPH patients undergoing VPS surgery, maintain the quality of the patient experience, and are an effective method for mitigating healthcare consumption in an expanding patient group.
