Pneumoperitoneum (PP) is a severe finding in emergency departments. Its quick and correct diagnosis is indispensable for the further treatment of patients. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical value of abdominal ultrasound performed with a modern hand-carried ultrasound (HCU) device as well as with a high-end ultrasound (HUS) system in the diagnosis of PP in patients with acute abdominal pain. ⋯ 1. Pneumoperitoneum (PP) is a severe finding in emergency departments. 2. Hand-carried (HCU) and high-end (HUS) ultrasound systems can be helpful in detecting PP. 3. Abdominal radiography (AR) and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) are superior in detecting PP. 4. HCU and HUS can accelerate the triage of patients. 5. HCU and HUS can be helpful when making decisions regarding the necessity of further examinations.

Experimental investigation of modern and established carotid stents.
The design and material determine the mechanical properties of stents. In vitro parameters such as radial force, flexibility and wall adaptation of different stents were investigated in order to obtain evidence for clinical use. ⋯ The investigation of carotid stents provides an objective comparison of mechanical properties. Conclusions about the respective optimum uses of stents can be drawn from this. The hybrid stents show a good balance of properties for wide applicability. Cardiac MRI: T2-Mapping Versus T2-Weighted Dark-Blood TSE Imaging for Myocardial Edema Visualization in Acute Myocardial Infarction.
To assess the diagnostic accuracy of T2 mapping for the detection of myocardial edema in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and to compare this diagnostic accuracy with that of the current standard for myocardial edema imaging, which is T2w dark-blood TSE imaging. ⋯ T2 mapping allows for the visualization of myocardial edema in AMI with a high sensitivity and specificity, and features better diagnostic accuracy in terms of a higher sensitivity compared to T2w dark-blood TSE imaging.
