Radical prostatectomy (RP) is a primary treatment option for men with intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer. Although many are effectively cured with local therapy alone, these men are by definition at higher risk of adverse pathologic features and clinical disease recurrence. It has been shown that the Decipher test predicts metastatic progression in cohorts that received adjuvant and salvage therapy following RP. ⋯ The Decipher test improves identification of patients most at risk of metastatic progression and death from prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy.

EORTC Nomograms and Risk Groups for Predicting Recurrence, Progression, and Disease-specific and Overall Survival in Non-Muscle-invasive Stage Ta-T1 Urothelial Bladder Cancer Patients Treated with 1-3 Years of Maintenance Bacillus Calmette-Guérin.
There are no prognostic factor publications on stage Ta-T1 non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) treated with 1-3 yr of maintenance bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG). ⋯ Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients at high risk of recurrence and/or progression do poorly on currently recommended bacillus Calmette-Guérin maintenance schedules, and alternative treatments are urgently required.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be associated with a higher risk of progression to end-stage renal disease and mortality, but the etiology of nephron loss may modify this. Previous studies suggested that CKD primarily due to surgical removal of nephrons (CKD-S) may be more stable and associated with better survival than CKD due to medical causes (CKD-M). ⋯ Survival is better for surgically induced chronic kidney disease (CKD) than for medically induced CKD, particularly if the postoperative glomerular filtration rate is ≥45 ml/min/1.73 m(2). Patients with preexisting CKD are at risk of a significant decline in kidney function after surgery, and kidney-preserving treatment should be strongly considered in such cases.
