Tonsilloliths are rare concretions found in the tonsillar crypt. They are usually single and unilateral, but occasionally may be multiple or bilateral. This report describes a case of a 47-year-old woman whose radiography revealed one radiopaque image located in the right ramus of the mandible. ⋯ Computer tomography showed a delimited and calcified oval image measuring 0.6 x 0.6 cm. The tonsillar concretion might have been formed because of a calcification of the lymphoid tissue. On the patient's request, surgical excision was not performed and she will be monitored due to the tendency of such lesions to grow.

Adult and paediatric basic life support: an update for the dental team.
The aim of this paper is to review the current Resuscitation Council (UK) basic life support guidelines. The main changes made to the guidelines published in 2000 are that for adult basic life support no initial rescue breaths should be delivered before commencing chest compressions and that the compression to ventilation ratio should be 30:2 irrespective of the number of rescuers. For children over the age of one year, two rescuers should provide life support with a compression to ventilation ratio of 15:2. There is still a need to deliver rescue breaths before starting compressions in the child patient.

Comparative StudyOral and salivary changes in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD): a two year follow-up study.
To compare oral health, salivary flow rate, xerostomia and thirst in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients remaining on dialysis treatment and after renal transplantation. ⋯ DMFT, dental plaque, gingival bleeding and periodontal indices did not change remarkably after two years, comparing dialysis and renal transplant patients. Renal transplantation enhances salivary flow and decreases symptoms of xerostomia and thirst, and hence enhances the potential to improve the quality of life of affected individuals.

Verifiable CPD paper: factors that influence the dental attendance pattern and maintenance of oral health for people with multiple sclerosis.
To determine the impact of multiple sclerosis (MS) on patient attendance at dental practices and maintenance of oral health. ⋯ MS has a negative impact on perceived patient attendance and maintenance of oral health. Patients with a progressive disability could benefit greatly from the provision of preventive oral health care. The importance of seeking care earlier rather than later needs to be emphasised to both professionals and patients alike. Further efforts are required to increase awareness of the importance of oral health to the quality of life of people with MS and ensure that individuals with physical disabilities receive the same access to dental services as the able-bodied.
