Evaluation of the new GenoType NTM-DR kit for the molecular detection of antimicrobial resistance in non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are emerging pathogens causing difficult-to-treat infections. We tested a new assay (GenoType NTM-DR) that detects natural and acquired resistance mechanisms to macrolides and aminoglycosides in frequently isolated NTM species. ⋯ The GenoType NTM-DR test is efficient in detecting mutations predictive of antimicrobial resistance in M. avium complex, M. abscessus and M. chelonae.

Case ReportsPolymyxin-resistant, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is eradicated by a triple combination of agents that lack individual activity.
The emergence of polymyxin resistance threatens to leave clinicians with few options for combatting drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii . The objectives of the current investigation were to define the in vitro emergence of polymyxin resistance and identify a combination regimen capable of eradicating A. baumannii with no apparent drug susceptibilities. ⋯ To combat polymyxin-resistant A. baumannii , the triple combination of polymyxin B, meropenem and ampicillin/sulbactam holds great promise.

Observational StudyPopulation pharmacokinetics and dosing simulations of ceftazidime in critically ill patients receiving sustained low-efficiency dialysis.
To describe the population PKs of ceftazidime in critically ill patients receiving sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED). ⋯ In critically ill patients receiving SLED, ceftazidime 1 g every 8 h and ceftazidime 2 g every 12 h appear to be sufficient for achieving traditional (50% fT > MIC ) and aggressive PD targets (100% fT > MIC ) for susceptible isolates (MIC ≤8 mg/L), respectively.

Ceftolozane/tazobactam activity against drug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa causing urinary tract and intraabdominal infections in Europe: report from an antimicrobial surveillance programme (2012-15).
To evaluate the in vitro activity of ceftolozane/tazobactam and comparators tested against European isolates of Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from hospitalized patients with urinary tract infection or intraabdominal infections. ⋯ Ceftolozane/tazobactam was the most active β-lactam agent tested against P. aeruginosa and demonstrated higher in vitro activity than currently available cephalosporins and piperacillin/tazobactam when tested against Enterobacteriaceae.
