Review Practice GuidelineGood practice recommendations for outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) in adults in the UK: a consensus statement.
These good practice recommendations for outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) are an update to a previous consensus statement on OPAT in the UK published in 1998. They are based on previous national and international guidelines, but have been further developed through an extensive consultation process, and are underpinned by evidence from published literature on OPAT. They provide pragmatic guidance on the development and delivery of OPAT services, looking at all aspects of service design, care delivery, outcome monitoring and quality assurance, with the aim of ensuring that OPAT services provide high-quality, low-risk care, whatever the healthcare setting. They will provide a useful resource for teams developing new services, as well as a practical set of quality indicators for existing services.

Multicenter StudyEpidemiology, species distribution and in vitro antifungal susceptibility of fungaemia in a Spanish multicentre prospective survey.
To update the knowledge of the epidemiology of fungaemia episodes in Spain, the species implicated and their in vitro antifungal susceptibilities. ⋯ Fungaemia is more common in non-critical patients. C. albicans is the most common species, followed by C. parapsilosis and C. glabrata. Nearly 90% of yeasts are susceptible to all antifungal agents tested. Resistance rates change moderately when applying the new SSCBPs.

Clinical TrialAlveolar diffusion and pharmacokinetics of linezolid administered in continuous infusion to critically ill patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia.
This study aimed to determine the steady-state serum and alveolar concentrations of linezolid administered by continuous infusion to critically ill patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). ⋯ Our study shows that the continuous infusion of 1200 mg of linezolid daily in critically ill patients with VAP provides satisfactory pharmacokinetic results, with a linezolid alveolar diffusion of 100% and concentrations exceeding almost twice the susceptibility breakpoint for Staphylococcus aureus (4 mg/L) in both serum and ELF for 100% of the time. However, the clinical benefit of continuous infusion in comparison with standard intermittent infusion is still to be determined.

Multicenter StudyPanton-Valentine leucocidin gene carriage among Staphylococcus aureus strains recovered from skin and soft tissue infections in Turkey.
Regardless of methicillin resistance, Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL)-positive Staphylococcus aureus isolates are associated with various types of infections and outbreaks. Limited data exist about the PVL content of S. aureus strains in Turkey. In this multicentre study, we aimed to assess the PVL positivity and antimicrobial susceptibilities of S. aureus isolates recovered from skin and soft tissue samples of both community and nosocomial origin in the study period, 2007-08. ⋯ Based on the findings of this study, infection related to PVL-carrying CA-MRSA is not at an alarmingly high level, but population-based surveillance studies should be done to determine the real status.
