Notalgia paresthetica is an isolated mononeuropathy involving the skin over or near the scapula. The cause remains unknown. ⋯ Immunohistochemical examination using a neural marker, S-100, positively stained the nerves. The Japanese version of Skindex-16: a brief quality-of-life measure for patients with skin diseases.
A practical quality-of-life measure applicable to patients with skin diseases is necessary. Recently developed dermatological quality-of-life measures must be translated and adapted for use in cultures other than the ones in which they were created. In this study, we translated and adapted culturally into Japanese a skin-disease-specific, brief quality-of-life measure, Skindex-16, and studied its reliability and validity. ⋯ Most patients' responses to an open-ended question about their skin disease were similar to those of the American responders and were addressed according to the items. In conclusion, we have developed a semantically equivalent translation of Skindex-16 into Japanese. It is a reliable and valid measure of the effects of skin disease on the quality of life in Japanese patients.

Severe angioedema induced by angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors: role of precipitating factors.
Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors like captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, trandopril and ramipril may rarely induce a life threatening angioedema. We present two cases of severe angioedema induced by enalapril and ramipril along with possible precipitating factors observed in these patients. The importance of prompt recognition and early management of such cases is emphasized.

Erythema ab igne is caused by chronic heat exposure and presents with reticulated pigmentation. Although various causes of erythema ab igne have been reported, in the United States, its incidence has been declining due to the advent of central heating. ⋯ We report a novel cause of erythema ab igne occurring in a patient with chronic arthritic pains. This patient applied popcorn kernels, heated in a microwave, to his right wrist and knee for 30 minutes at a time for over four months.
