Fatigue and sleep deprivation are important safety issues for long-haul truck drivers. ⋯ Long-haul truck drivers in this study obtained less sleep than is required for alertness on the job. The greatest vulnerability to sleep or sleep-like states is in the late night and early morning.

Effect of calcium and vitamin D supplementation on bone density in men and women 65 years of age or older.
Inadequate dietary intake of calcium and vitamin D may contribute to the high prevalence of osteoporosis among older persons. ⋯ In men and women 65 years of age or older who are living in the community, dietary supplementation with calcium and vitamin D moderately reduced bone loss measured in the femoral neck, spine, and total body over the three-year study period and reduced the incidence of nonvertebral fractures.
