Empagliflozin in Heart Failure with a Preserved Ejection Fraction.
Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in patients with heart failure and a reduced ejection fraction, but their effects in patients with heart failure and a preserved ejection fraction are uncertain. ⋯ Empagliflozin reduced the combined risk of cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure in patients with heart failure and a preserved ejection fraction, regardless of the presence or absence of diabetes. (Funded by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly; EMPEROR-Preserved ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03057951).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Efficacy of a Cell-Culture-Derived Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine in Children.
Cell-culture-derived influenza vaccines may enable a closer antigenic match to circulating strains of influenza virus by avoiding egg-adapted mutations. ⋯ IIV4c provided protection against influenza in healthy children and adolescents across seasons, regardless of previous influenza vaccination. (Funded by Seqirus; EudraCT number, 2016-002883-15; ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03165617.).

Despite the high efficacy of the BNT162b2 messenger RNA vaccine against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), rare breakthrough infections have been reported, including infections among health care workers. Data are needed to characterize these infections and define correlates of breakthrough and infectivity. ⋯ Among fully vaccinated health care workers, the occurrence of breakthrough infections with SARS-CoV-2 was correlated with neutralizing antibody titers during the peri-infection period. Most breakthrough infections were mild or asymptomatic, although persistent symptoms did occur.
