Recursive partitioning analysis of prognostic factors for survival in patients with advanced cancer.
To construct a predictive model for survival of patients referred to the Rapid Response Radiotherapy Program using recursive partitioning (RP). ⋯ We have demonstrated that RP can be used to predict the survival of patients with advanced cancer. However, this model has no advantages compared with our published prognostic models that use the survival prediction scores and number of risk factors.

Analysis of salivary flow and dose-volume modeling of complication incidence in patients with head-and-neck cancer receiving intensity-modulated radiotherapy.
To investigate dose-volume effects of salivary flow and the functional recovery over time, using salivary function data and different models of normal tissue complication probability (NTCP). ⋯ Recovery of salivary gland function vs. time after RT took place mostly within 1 year after RT. The RTOG Grade 3 was a reliable score to perform the NTCP modeling. The choice of NTCP model had no influence on the accuracy of predictions.

Impact of adding concomitant chemotherapy to hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy for advanced head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma.
To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy (RT) schedule combined with concomitant chemotherapy (Cx) in patients with locally advanced head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma. ⋯ With this chemoradiotherapy regimen, excellent LRC and survival rates were achieved, with acceptable acute toxicity.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPhase III multi-institutional trial of adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel, estramustine, and oral etoposide combined with long-term androgen suppression therapy and radiotherapy versus long-term androgen suppression plus radiotherapy alone for high-risk prostate cancer: preliminary toxicity analysis of RTOG 99-02.
Long-term androgen suppression plus radiotherapy (AS+RT) is standard treatment of high-risk prostate cancer. A randomized trial, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group trial 9902, was undertaken to determine whether adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel, estramustine, and etoposide (TEE) plus AS+RT would improve disease outcomes with acceptable toxicity. ⋯ TEE was associated with significantly increased toxicity during treatment. The toxicity profiles did not differ at 2 and 3 years after therapy. Toxicity is an important consideration in the design of trials using adjuvant chemotherapy for prostate cancer.
