Intensity-modulated proton therapy versus helical tomotherapy in nasopharynx cancer: planning comparison and NTCP evaluation.
To compare intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) and helical tomotherapy (HT) treatment plans for nasopharynx cancer using a simultaneous integrated boost approach. ⋯ Excellent target coverage, homogeneity within the PTVs, and sparing of the organs at risk were reached with both modalities. IMPT allows for better sparing of most organs at risk at medium-to-low doses.

Adverse effects of androgen deprivation therapy on persistent genitourinary complications after carbon ion radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
To determine the risk factors for persistent late genitourinary (GU) morbidity after carbon ion radiotherapy (C-ion RT) for prostate cancer. ⋯ Adverse effects with long-course ADT on persistent GU morbidity were observed in this study. Additional investigation is needed to identify suitable ADT administration according to risk groups, but long-course ADT should not be adopted for non-high-risk prostate cancer patients to reduce the GU toxicity rate with C-ion RT.

Japanese structure survey of radiation oncology in 2005 based on institutional stratification of patterns of care study.
To evaluate the structure of radiation oncology in Japan in terms of equipment, personnel, patient load, and geographic distribution to identify and improve any deficiencies. ⋯ The Japanese structure has clearly improved during the past 15 years in terms of equipment and its use, although the shortage of manpower and variations in maturity disclosed by this Patterns of Care Study stratification remain problematic. These constitute the targets for nationwide improvement in quality assurance and quality control.
