Concussions may accelerate the progression to long-term mental health outcomes such as depression in athletes. ⋯ Professional football players self-reporting concussions are at greater risk for having depressive episodes later in life compared with those retired players self-reporting no concussions.

To date, few studies have been published reporting the 5-year follow-up of clinical and radiological outcomes for chondral defects treated with matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI). ⋯ Patients treated with a MACI implant demonstrated significant clinical improvement and good quality repair tissue 5 years after surgery. The MACI procedure was shown to be a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic, traumatic chondral knee defects in this study.

Tibial plateau fractures are frequently associated with meniscal tears. Little is known about the results of meniscal repair in this group of patients. ⋯ Meniscal repair of tears associated with tibial plateau fractures has good results. All patients had good or excellent clinical results. Second-look arthroscopy confirmed complete healing in 92% of meniscal tears when performed.

Anatomic and checkrein tenodesis reconstruction techniques have been described as a means of treatment for chronic lateral ligament instability in the ankle. The current article describes a hybrid procedure using the most advantageous concepts of both techniques for use when insufficient normal ligament remains to fashion a direct repair of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). ⋯ This hybrid anatomic lateral ligament reconstruction technique using a peroneus longus autograft to substitute the native ATFL provides an alternative to anatomic reconstruction when direct repair is not possible.

The use of validated outcome questionnaires and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) when assessing outcomes after surgical treatment of proximal hamstring avulsions has been limited. ⋯ The current findings indicate that surgical repair of complete hamstring ruptures provides reliable pain relief, good functional outcomes, high satisfaction rates, and excellent healing rates (MRI) but does not fully restore hamstring function and sports activity to preinjury levels.
