Arthroscopically assisted stabilization of acute high-grade acromioclavicular joint separations.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results after arthroscopically assisted and image intensifier--controlled stabilization of high-grade acromioclavicular (AC) joint separations using the double TightRope technique with the first-generation implant. ⋯ The combined arthroscopically assisted and image intensifier--controlled double TightRope technique using implants of the first-generation represents a safe technique and yields good to excellent early clinical results despite the presence of partial recurrent vertical and horizontal AC joint instability.

Snowkiting is becoming an increasingly popular extreme sport; however, its injury rates and patterns are unknown to date. ⋯ Snowkiting can be considered a sport carrying a high risk of injury. More caution in assessing local snow conditions and wind gust occurrences is recommended as well as considering using the help and advice of a professional instructor when beginning this action-packed sport. Injury prevention strategies should also include the further improvement of currently available safety equipment.

The effectiveness of prophylactic knee bracing in preventing knee injuries during sports has been evaluated; however, because of the variability in study conclusions, the topic remains controversial. Despite a paucity of data, the authors believe that prophylactic knee bracing is frequently used in off-road motorcycling. ⋯ The most common knee injuries in off-road motorcycling involve the anterior cruciate ligament, menisci, and medial collateral ligament. The use of prophylactic knee bracing appears to have a beneficial effect in preventing medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament injuries as well as overall knee injury occurrence. These findings may be applicable to other sports that involve similar forces and mechanics.

Whether open or arthroscopic techniques are employed, the goal of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) surgery is to achieve impingement-free range of motion. While arthroscopic approaches have improved and gained popularity, an objective evaluation of the surgical correction achieved with this approach compared with open surgery remains to be defined in the literature. ⋯ Arthroscopic osteoplasty can restore head-neck offset and achieve similar depth, arc, and proximal-distal resection with comparable efficacy to open surgical dislocation for anterior and anterosuperior cam and focal rim impingement deformity. The open technique, however, may allow greater correction of posterosuperior loss of femoral offset and may be favorable for FAI patterns that demonstrate considerable proximal femoral deformity on AP radiographs.

Femoroacetabular impingement has become more widely recognized in the athletic patient population. The purpose of the present study was to review the clinical outcome after arthroscopic treatment of femoroacetabular impingement in a mixed population of high-level athletes. ⋯ Arthroscopic treatment of femoroacetabular impingement in a mixed group of high-level athletes may result in a significant improvement in hip functional outcome: 78% of athletes were able to return to play at 1 year and 73% of athletes were able to play at 2-year follow-up.
