Lateral posterior tibial slope (PTS) has been identified as a risk factor for primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. ⋯ The lateral PTS was significantly increased among patients with contact and noncontact ACL tears as compared with controls. However, there were no differences in lateral PTS between patients who sustained contact and noncontact ACL tears. Lateral PTS measured on magnetic resonance imaging does not appear to be predictive of the mechanism of injury type among patients who sustain a contact or noncontact primary ACL tear.

Subchondral changes, specifically cyst formation, are a known finding after osteochondral allograft (OCA) transplantation. ⋯ Osteochondral allograft thickness is associated with subchondral cyst formation at short-term follow-up. Thin grafts demonstrate a substantially increased risk of developing subchondral cysts at the graft-host junction after OCA transplantation. Conversely, thicker grafts may negatively affect osseous graft integration. Hence, surgeons should be aware of the potential pitfalls of transplanting thin or thick grafts regarding cystic formation and delay of osseous integration after cartilage resurfacing.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Young Female Athletes: Patellar Versus Hamstring Tendon Autografts.
Female athletes are 2 to 8 times more prone to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture than males. Furthermore, reinjury to the ipsilateral or contralateral knee can occur in >20% of athletes. Female sex and younger age are known risk factors for graft failure. The optimal graft choice for young females remains unknown and poorly studied. ⋯ In females aged 15 to 20 years undergoing ACLR, BTB autograft may lead to fewer graft ruptures than HS autograft. While this difference was not observed in females aged 21 to 25 years, a larger sample may be required to accept the null hypothesis in this age group. BTB autograft significantly increased the risk of kneeling pain as compared with HS regardless of age.

Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow is relatively common among baseball pitchers. Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR) has revolutionized the management of this injury, allowing a greater proportion of pitchers to return to play. ⋯ There was a high rate of return to pitching after UCLR. However, most studies showed that UCLR was associated with a prolonged recovery and significant decline in pitching performance as objectively measured by in-game statistics. The strength of these conclusions is limited by the quality of the available literature and inconsistencies in the reporting of outcomes.

The acetabular labrum plays important roles in proprioception, nociception, synovial fluid seal effect, and static and dynamic joint stability and as a shock absorber. Clinical and radiographic risk factors for unsalvageable labral tear in femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) are not well established. ⋯ Age ≥45 years, body mass index ≥23.1 kg/m2, and vertical center anterior angle ≥36° are risk factors for unsalvageable labral tear at initial hip arthroscopic surgery for patients with FAI.
