Biomechanical Properties of 3-Dimensional Printed Volar Locking Distal Radius Plate: Comparison With Conventional Volar Locking Plate.
This study evaluated the biomechanical properties of a new volar locking plate made by 3-dimensional printing using titanium alloy powder and 2 conventional volar locking plates under static and dynamic loading conditions that were designed to replicate those seen during fracture healing and early postoperative rehabilitation. ⋯ These results support the potential clinical utility of 3-dimensional printed volar locking plates in which design can be modified according the fracture configuration and the anatomy of the radius.

The Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS), developed by the National Institutes of Health, utilizes a health domain related to Pain Interference (PI). We evaluated this domain and its association with physical function (as determined by PROMIS Physical Function [PF]), administered as a computer adaptive test (CAT), and secondarily its association to a numerical 0 to 10 pain score. Our null hypothesis was that PI, as measured by CAT, has no correlation to PF and thus, there is no difference between comparisons of numerical pain scores and PROMIS PF. ⋯ Patient-reported pain using a 0 to 10 pain score can be a predictor of patients' level of function, and although pain score does not replace other patient-reported outcomes, it can provide useful information, particularly when other patient-reported outcomes are not available.

The importance of flexor tendon repair with both core and epitendinous suture placement has been well established. The objective of this study was to determine whether suture placement order affects gliding resistance and bunching in flexor digitorum profundus tendons in a human ex vivo model. ⋯ Epitendinous-first flexor tendon repairs may contribute to improved clinical outcomes compared with control repairs by decreasing gliding resistance and bunching.
