Traumatic amputations of the thumb are rare in children compared with adults, but hand surgeons remain reticent to consider microsurgical reconstruction with toe-to-thumb transfers. This study reports the functional outcomes and complications of children with traumatic thumb amputations who underwent toe-to-thumb reconstruction. ⋯ Therapeutic IV.

To investigate whether the location of distal radius osteotomy/shortening relative to the radial insertion of the distal interosseous membrane (DIOM) is correlated with distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability. We hypothesized that distal radius osteotomy and shortening proximal to the DIOM insertion would result in increased DRUJ instability because of induced laxity in the DIOM. ⋯ Distal radius osteotomy and shortening did not affect DRUJ stability regardless of location relative to the DIOM insertion.

Comparison of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire, Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire, and PROMIS Instruments in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Patient-reported outcomes are important to assess improvement after surgery. Common instruments for carpal tunnel syndrome include the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (CTQ). The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) are newer measures. We evaluated how the PROMIS Pain Interference (PI) and Upper Extremity (UE) scores change after carpal tunnel release. ⋯ This study demonstrates the change in PROMIS scores after carpal tunnel release and how they compare with legacy outcome instruments.

To describe the innervation of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint of the fingers as well as the anatomical relations of the articular branches. ⋯ An accurate understanding of peripheral nerve anatomy of the PIP joint is essential to improve outcomes in denervation techniques.

To determine the effects of motion-increasing modifications to radioscapholunate (RSL) arthrodesis on capitolunate contact pressure in cadaveric wrist specimens. ⋯ If a surgeon is contemplating performing an RSL arthrodesis with DSE, we recommend adding a triquetrectomy to improve motion because this does not add to the potentially deleterious effects of increased midcarpal contact force.
