A reliability study was conducted. ⋯ The ossification-kyphosis angle in the sagittal view of MRI has potential as an indicator of the effectiveness of posterior decompression in this disease. It is thought that there is a critical point of posterior decompression at nearly 23 degrees of the ossification-kyphosis angle of the decompression site. When the ossification-kyphosis angle is more than 20 degrees , the presence of echo free space should be carefully confirmed in intraoperative ultrasonography.

Animal study. ⋯ PMMA caused relatively little necrotic exothermal effect. The presence of PMMA with barium sulfate induces a mild foreign body reaction. The use of a balloon tamp creates a void by displacing pieces of bone, which may result in a lower incidence of intravascular cement leak.

Experimental animal study. OBJECTIVE.: Evaluate osteopromotive properties of a beta-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) implant with different osteogenic substances in an animal study. ⋯ The combination of beta-TCP and bone marrow has superior osteopromotive properties to venous blood or concentrated mononuclear cells and can be used effectively as a substitute to iliac crest graft.

Cyclic mechanical stress (CMS) was applied to cultured nucleus pulposus and anulus fibrosus cells, and the production of inflammatory agents by these cells was evaluated. ⋯ The results of this study suggested that CMS might be involved in the pathomechanism of pain induction of lumbar disc diseases.
