Prospective study. ⋯ Superior results were achieved in the group of patients with Modic-1 endplate changes on magnetic resonance images. These data may be helpful in patient selection and in preoperative patient counseling.
-
Prospective trial. ⋯ If multisegment fusion (3-level fusion) is performed, bilateral local bone grafting results in a poor rate of bone union because of an insufficiency of local bone. Unilateral bone grafting is recommended because better rates of bone union and stability are achieved.

Case Reports
The security analysis of transpedicular screw fixation in the lower cervical spine and a case report.
This study evaluated the anatomical parameters of the lower cervical spine by imaging methods and reported a case. ⋯ There was an "escaping space" for the vertebral artery and spinal cord. CTSF in the superior part of pedicle was relatively safer from accidental perforation of the vertebral artery than CTSF in the inferior part, and in C6 and C7, CTSF was safer from this injury than in C3, C4, and C5.

Case Reports
Nightmare complication after lumbar disc surgery: cranial nontraumatic acute epidural hematoma.
Case report. ⋯ There have been described rare cases of spontaneous subdural, intracerebral, and intracerebellar hematoma caused by intracranial hypotension, but this is the first described case of spontaneous cranial epidural hematoma after lumbar disc surgery caused by intracranial hypotension.

Independent review and classification of therapeutic procedures performed on cadavers by surgeons blinded to purpose of study. ⋯ Percutaneous pedicle screw placement may result in a high rate of facet violation. Facet injury can be reliability classified and therefore, perhaps, easily prevented.
