A single-center, prospective, consecutive case series of patients undergoing epidural lavage before the treatment of radiculopathy due to lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ A molecular complex of fibronectin and aggrecan predicts response to lumbar ESI for radiculopathy with HNP. The biomarker is accurate, objective, and not affected by demographic or psychosocial variables in this series.

Surgically denucleated porcine intervertebral discs (IVD) were injected with BIOSTAT BIOLOGX Fibrin Sealant (FS), and the in vivo effects were assessed over time by histological, biochemical, and mechanical criteria. ⋯ FS facilitated structural, compositional, and mechanical repair of the surgically damaged IVD. These FS-derived benefits are likely due to its conductive scaffold properties and metabolically active constituents such as thrombin, factor XIII, and aprotinin acetate.

Epidemiological study. ⋯ Female sex, enlisted rank groups, service in the Army, Navy, or Air Force, age greater than 40 years, and a marital status of married were all risk factors for low back pain.

Prospective radiological analysis of patients with achondroplasia. ⋯ Sagittal parameters and possible relationships between sagittal parameters and symptoms were found to be significantly different in achondroplasia patients and normal healthy controls. The present study shows that sagittal spinal and pelvic parameters can assist the treatment of spinal disorders in achondroplasia patients.

Retrospective review of a multicenter database. ⋯ In this review of a large multicenter database of surgically treated pediatric scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis had the highest morbidity, but relatively high complication rates occurred in all groups. These data may be useful for preoperative counseling and surgical decision-making in the treatment of pediatric scoliosis.
