L5-S1 Achromobacter xylosoxidans infection secondary to oxygen-ozone therapy for the treatment of lumbosacral disc herniation: a case report and review of the literature.
Case report and literature review. ⋯ This first report of A. xylosoxidans vertebral infection secondary to oxygen-ozone therapy illustrates the wide variety of environmental pathogens that can complicate the percutaneous treatment of degenerative vertebral disease.

Retrospective database analysis. ⋯ This nonconflicted study demonstrates that the utilization of BMP has dramatically increased from 2002-2011. Interestingly, off-label application of BMP accounts for the vast majority of BMP utilization. The increase in the total hospital costs is likely multifactorial; older patients with more comorbidities undergoing surgery as well as the increasing utilization of BMP are all likely contributory factors. The length of hospitalization stay and mortality rates did not increase during the 10-year period.

Observational Study
Transient low back pain development during standing predicts future clinical low back pain in previously asymptomatic individuals.
Longitudinal, observational. ⋯ Transient LBP development during prolonged standing is a positive predictive factor for future clinical LBP in previously asymptomatic individuals. Individuals who experience transient LBP during standing may be considered a "preclinical" group who are at increased risk for future LBP disorders.

Biomechanical cadaveric study. ⋯ Augmentation enhances screw performance in patients with poor bone stock, whereas no difference is observed for patients without osteoporosis. Furthermore, dynamic stabilization systems have the possibility to fail when implanted in osteoporotic bone.
