Laboratory study using a rat T9 contusion model of spinal cord injury (SCI). ⋯ Results suggest that keratin biomaterials support some locomotor functional recovery and may alter the acute inflammatory response by inducing macrophage polarization following SCI. This therapy warrants further investigation into treatment of SCI.Level of Evidence: N/A.

Nationwide Readmissions Database Study. ⋯ We report an overall 90-day readmission rate of 16.4% and 29.4%, in operative and nonoperative management of type II odontoid fractures, respectively. In the face of a rising incidence of this fracture in the elderly population, an understanding of the comorbidities and age-related demographics associated with 90-day readmissions following both surgical and nonsurgical treatment are critical.Level of Evidence: 3.

An in vivo model to study the effect of an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel following puncture-induced lumbar disc injury in rabbits. ⋯ An injectable HA hydrogel had the protective effects in suppressing the loss of disc height, promoting tissue hydration for structural repair, and attenuating inflammation and innervation to prevent further disc degeneration.Level of Evidence: N/A.
