A retrospective cohort study. ⋯ Cranially directed UIV screw angles increased the odds of PJK in patients with lower thoracic UIV. Meticulous attention should be paid to the lower thoracic UIV screw angle to mitigate the risk of PJK in ASD.

Meta Analysis
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Literature.
Meta-analysis. ⋯ There seem to be associations between AIS and genetic SNP. Further larger studies should be conducted to validate the results.
-
Retrospective, observational. ⋯ Spine patients presenting with the lowest levels of physical or MH were most likely to experience clinically significant improvement in those domains. However, lower levels of physical or mental health made it less likely that patients would experience significant improvement in the alternative domain. Physicians should evaluate and address the complex spine population holistically to maximize improvement in both physical and mental health status.

Retrospective comparative study. ⋯ Patients with PJK tend to have less dense posterior fusion mass at the UIV. Fusion mass density does not correlate with RF, but greater bone density near the osteotomy was correlated with accompanying pseudarthrosis in patients with RFs. Assessing density of posterior fusion mass on CT may be helpful in assessing risk for PJK and provide insight as to the causes of RFs.

A prospective cohort study. ⋯ Level 3.
